Drifthorne Settlement in Arbressian | World Anvil

Drifthorne

This city is located in the southwest of Somerrane Island, part of the Euhukoa Empire. It is nestled in a valley below a mountain chain to the south of the city. It is bordered by a large lake to the northeast, a forest to the north, and farmlands to the east.   Drifthorne is divided into six districts; Upper Tree, Upper East Drift, Lower Horne, Skytrade, West Grain, and Center Vale.

Government

The governor of Somerrane Island has their residence and main office in Drifthorne but, as all governors of their own islands in the Empire, they are expected to travel to all the other major settlements on the island at least once a year. They oversee the laws and welfare of the people on Somerrane Island and act as an extension of the Empress.   There is a council made up of the heads of each guild in Drifthorne, as well as the captain of the city guard. They can make suggestions and bring up concerns that the citizens have to aid the governor in making decisions about how to run the city and make improvements. However, the Empress has the final say about any change made to laws or structure in Somerrane.   In 1970 of the Age of Awakening, there are many active guilds in Drifthorne. For example there is The Farmer's Guild, The Miner's Guild, The Mender's Guild, The Hunter's Guild, The Fishing Guild, The Carpenter's Guild etc. It is incredibly rare that all of the heads of the guilds show up to council meetings, most of them choosing to show up when they've got an issue to address. The two that always show up to scheduled meetings are the Captain of the City Guard, and the Drifthorne head of The Mender's Guild.

Infrastructure

The Drifthorne skyport is located at the southwest edge of the city. The tall docking towers are a distinguishing landmark that can be seen from miles away, even while far from the valley.

Assets

The Tickling Nose Tavern

A run down tavern located in the Skytrade district near the skyport. It is very affordable and that is its best quality. If pressed, they provide lodging for the low cost of seven copper pieces. The sleeping arrangements are a few blankets and a threadbare pillow with barely any stuffing on the floor of the attic.   Price list:
Ale - 2 copper pieces per mug, 1 silver piece per gallon
Meal - 3 copper pieces
