The Cliffbottom Retreat
Located near the base of the cliff wall in Stonehaven, this is a quieter, upscale inn catering to visiting scholars, merchants, and adventurers who prefer a little more comfort. Ran by Velenius Duskthorn , a retired wood elf adventurer with an eye for fine wines and rare vintages. He keeps a cellar stocked with curiosities.
The tavern is well regarded as a marvel of the town, a place of fine dining and gentle manners. Being in close proximity to The cliffside shrine and the College of Arcanists it can enjoy a varied crowd of inhabitants on any given night but is definitely for those who want the finer things in life.
Purpose / Function
Originally a mansion-house that never found anyone willing to take it over after the original owner passed, it became a tavern after many years of standing empty.
Architecture
A stone building set into the cliff face, its back wall is the natural stone of the cliff, which is used as cellars and pantries and is kept naturally cool. The outside is ornate, with fine stone carving in an Dwarven style of rigid shapes and straight lines with inlaid reliefs of stylised forest creatures.
Inside, the building is split into many rooms, over three floors. The first is made into a larger saloon bar and the smaller, cosy rooms off this are well appointed with comfy chairs and tables, making it a perfect place for small groups to gather with some privacy. The 1st floor is then a larger dining room and kitchens with five double rooms on the top floor for guests.
