The Lamplighters

Angry would be a way to describe the Lamplighters these days, the former remnants of a company that made it's money by providing coal and oil to the lamps that lit the city. With the advent of Levin Stones and specifically Electric lighting their services are far more reduced than they once were. There is still a scattering of oil and coal lamps in the Twigs and Third Ring but much of their business has been lost and as the march of progress is ever forward more and more is being eroded away, so the Lamplighters have found new work... making bombs.
"Used to be every street corner was lit by them, now a days it's all electric and me and the boys do different things with the oil" -Eustus Finaly (Lamplighter)

Public Agenda

The lamplighters main source of income these days is providing explosives to those who require them, they had a lot of oil stock pilled when the change to electricity began and now with nothing to do with it but sit in a warehouse they've put it to other uses. Some uses are legitimate for example the The Davey Lamps buy a bit in order to blast out sections of rock in the way of ore. However there is another side to their sales that is for less above board. You would be surprised to know how much of their explosives end up in the hands of criminal organizations within Arbor.

Public Perception

Lower Class

In a lot of ways there is a great deal of sympathy for the Lamplighters here, and a fair few of their members are from the kinds of places that those in the lower class would be born into to, and thus the Lamplighters have a fair few that might look the other way or even store items for the company should the need arise to hide certain goods from the Green Cloak.

Middle Class

Possibly because the Lamplighters represent a fall into depravity the Middle class views them mostly with pity and derision, there isn't much more to be said here.

Upper Class

As high and far away as they are the Upper class has no need of the Lamplighters services directly though on occasion a noble with a more unusual appetite for violence might enlist their services to render an enemy into mulch.

History:

The Lamplighters were a company that provided oil and coal for lighting in the city of Arbor. However, their livelihood was threatened when electricity and Levin Stones were introduced, causing a significant portion of the city to switch to electrical lighting and returning their stockpiles of oil and coal to the Lamplighters. The company faced financial difficulties as a result, and the Rosewood Bank began calling in their loans, seemingly looking for an excuse to pull back all the money before the company went bankrupt.   Just when it seemed like the Lamplighters' situation couldn't get any worse, an accidental mixing of coal dust, oil, and other elements resulted in a small explosion. This seemingly insignificant event turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Lamplighters, as they realized they could sell this new creation and began marketing it to the The Davey Lamps . Soon, other customers began to come and purchase the product as well.

Rumors

Now of course one would be remiss to not mention the rumors that the Lamplighters do a bit more than just make explosives, that with the banks closing in and everything looking a bit dire they decided to take matters into their own hands. It is after all awfully suspicious that the bank was hit not a few days after issuing an ultimatum to the Lamplighters threatening to kick them out of their homes, that the bank responsible for the loan on the company was robbed of a large number of assets. Of course with a string of explosive robberies in the city many have begun to speculate that perhaps they aren't selling the explosives after all.

Attire / Common Garb / Quirks:

To this day the Lamplighters are still as they were when they lit the city at night, covered in coal and oil giving a dirty and disheveled countenance. Their hands are the most tell tale signs covered in the black soot of coal and slightly glossy from the oil. They tend to wear dark clothes as a result of the things they work with
