Nathan Penn

Nathan Penn, books and books have been written about the man who orchestrated the greatest change of government and power structures in the city of Arbor. About his business acumen, where he came from and how he rose to power. Many of them of course seeking to cash in on a great man's success and ride his coattails to some small aspect of fame. However like with most great men there is little truth to what others write about them and the truth of their deeds is something that mere mortals can only speculate on.
Nathan started out as just your average textile entrepreneur, no one could have foreseen the changes he would bring to Arbor and how much he would be changed by them... -Nathan's Childhood Friend

Appearance

Nathan by all estimations was a rather plain Elven man, the long pointed ears and fair features of his ancestry probably helped him land a few early business deals but he wasn't by any accounts special enough in that way to really alter his fate. He is best remembered for the red suit he always wore and in fact when his statue was being considered there were talks of making the thing red out of respect for the suit he would often wear. His hair was blonde though kept short to keep it out of the machines where his factory was eventually built. In addition he had a gold monocle he always wore that he would often say allowed him to see the best deals.

Personality

Nathan was a rather straightforward man who when presented with opportunity was not afraid to take steps to maximize its potential. He was slow to anger and could be a in room of shouting businessmen fighting over profits while being the only one in the room to recognize that he didn't need to fight to get what he wanted, he simply needed to wait for the right opportunity. Nathan was also and extremely secretive person and would regularly hide away from everyone even his own family for days or perhaps weeks at a time.

Background

Nathan's life has had much scrutiny passed over it in particular the moments before he orchestrated the takeover of the The Silver Council in order to glean how he was able to accomplish such a feat and to apply those techniques to modern business. Alas even the most fervent of scholars have been unable to pierce the veil of Nathan's secretive life that would enlighten everyone on how he actually accomplished such a great feat.

Early Life

Nathan's family was born into relative wealth having come from a long line of priests and clergy men and it was expected that he would join them in the tradition. In order to help him prepare for this he was educated in the clergy's libraries and rectories being a great student of history, philosophy and his favourite subject business. Nathan instantly fell in love of the workings of business and profit of managing men and women to produce great things, to take risks with one's own livelihood in the hopes that you might be able to outwit your competition. He saw business as the great battlefield of his time, there were no family wars or great battle to be had but in the realms of business there were still lands to be conquered. There were some who said that during his time as an boy working for the church that members of the clergy engaged in some kind of impropriety with young Nathan, nothing has ever been proven of course but still for posterity it is there, many believe this rumor was spread to provide reason for Nathan to leave the church's arms.

Middle Age

This period of Nathan's life is one of the most highly scrutinized because this is the moment when Nathan went from ordinary man to changer of destiny. He told his family he was not going to pursue the path of his forebears and instead would be entering the world of business. They were strangely supportive from all accounts and did not offer any resistance to the idea of a change of career, they even went so far as to provide him with his inheritance at this time so he could establish himself. Eventually after much research into the various kinds of business he could venture into Nathan decided on textiles and used a plot of land his family had had that had gone unused for generations. Little more than a barren field in the Second Ring it would be a perfect place for a Textile Factory taking cloth from the Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild and producing beautiful new garments for both high and low born. However when breaking ground on the factory there was a flurry of activity and many clandestine meetings with other Factory Bosses, the start of something revolutionary was beginning. Nathan met with some of his old contacts in the clergy and after the meeting the The Silver Council changed its rules on how admissions would work for any new seats. With the help of the more experienced and all together more ruthless Bosses of the 9 council seats 4 abdicated and 2 were found in Silver Leaf Lake within a weak. Once this was done Nathan and several other Factory Bosses along with other factions across the city seized control of the city in a little less than a month. There are many hidden things though that don't make sense about this what leverage did Nathan have over the Church how had he convinced the other bosses to go along with his plan and finally why did the church allow such a thing to continue? So many mysteries abound about this period of Nathan's life but one thing is certain Nathan went from humble factory owner to the first Arbiter of Production with considerable power. It was also at this time that Nathan met their wife and started planning for his family.

Twilight Years

Having secured his place in history much of Nathan's life at this point was spent further eroding the church's control on the council until there was only one member left though it is said that this one member is left there on Nathan's request. As a way of looking back on the past and honouring what came before. But much of this time in Nathan's life took the form of charity events and balls and general merry making his family was his world and he took great care to make sure that they were provided when he passed. Nathan was unusual in some respects for all the wealth he accumulated he did not seek out the life extending treatments many of his peers did and instead only lived a 130 years or so, a good life for an elf but by no means extraordinary. His death was marked by a national day of mourning during his time doing charity work he spent much of his time improving and advocating for parts of the city no one else would even the Twigs had benefited greatly from Nathan's philanthropy. So when he passed a huge portion of the city turned out to grieve for this man.
