Moonheart Family

To look upon the Great Weave and see that a single family has been responsible for chronicling the history of Arbor and doing so in relative secrecy is clearly something of an incredible feat. To realize that the Moonhearts are one of the most powerful families in Arbor is again something to reckon with. To finally understand that they have done so while maintaining a neutral stance to all but the most caustic of companies within Arbor's walls is nothing short of a miracle. The Moonheart family control the Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild and for centuries always has. It is their head of house who leads it and maintains the Great Weave into which the history of the city is woven and perhaps a small amount of it's future.
"I've got nothing bad to say about the Moonhearts not much good either, they make nice duds is all but I don't really know much else about them secretive lot that family" - Filtwick "Whiskers" Black

Public Agenda:

Publicly the Moonhearts exist like any of the other Old Families using their power and influence to further grow their empires, cut deals and genearally live lives that most would consider debaucherous and hedonistic. Where they differ though is in their secrecy. much of their knowledge of weaving techniques as it pertains to Great Tree Fiber is known only to members of their family and even still only to those who are trusted in the inner circle. In addition to this their private lives seem to be closed off from the public as well and they take great lengths to ensure it stays this way. So if the Moonhearts have an agenda it's one they are keeping very close to their chest.

Public Perception

Lower Class

The poor and downtrodden have little interaction with the Moonhearts except to work in their mills located in the First Ring. For many it is the only time they get to travel to the First Ring as otherwise they are turned away at the gates of the First Walls. As employers many people seek out work their because it is mostly safe and the pay is higher than average. Accidents do happen particularly to the young children who must work inbetween the machines freeing jams and such.

Middle Class

For the middle class the Moonhearts are seen as aloof aristocrats. A mystery better left unsolved and one that rarely impacts thier daily lives, unless they are looking into becoming a true weaver and take the thread, the act of stitching ones lips together forever.

Upper Class

The upper class see the Moonhearts as a silent partner in all things. They know that all of Arbor wears and is wearing something that has passed through their hands and looms but as to their specific opinions about them they are a mystery hidden from view and yet not in a way that would invite undue investigations, not that a few have not tried to press their luck over the years leading to some rather intese encounters.

History:

As one of the Old Families the Moonhearts have been in Arbor since it's founding, they have seen several governments rise and fall, made it out the other side of more than one revolution and always maintained peaceful relations with all relevant factions within Arbor. This in of itself is not mean feat. Their history then is the history of Arbor but for sake of completness we shall start at the founding.

Casting On

When The First Ones came to Arbor among them were the Moonheart family, a small group that at the time contained a number of would be witches and seers. How true this was is anyone's guess but at least for them there was faith. When they came close to Arbor though some of these began to have prophetic visions. It was these visions that finally lead the group to Arbor in the first place a notion the family has worked hard to remind the populace about.

New Threads

Once in Arbor though it was their skill as spinners and weavers that became more valuable quickly establishing the Hand Weavers and Spinners guild to process the leaves of the great tree into Fiber that could then be spun into thread. They are the ones who learned the secret that would allow them to break down the Fiber of the Great Tree into it's components. Perhaps they continued to have visions of what was to come and simply copied themselves from the future but however they did this in short order they began producing clothing for all that remained.

The Great Weave Begins

With the problem of thread solved the Moonheart family turned their attention to their other pursuit that is chronicling the events of the history of Arbor using the mdeium they knew best. Before long they had chronicled their journey across the great Desert and the challenges that needed to be overcome. At first none save the Moonhearts could see what they were working on but eventually after many centuries ordinary people were allowed in but by this time the Tapestry was in sections and finding the begining or any part you were looking for was impossible, perhaps as the Moonhearts intended it to be.

Business Interests

The Moonhearts main business interest is in the weaving and spinning of cloth and thread. Al of their considerable wealth is tied up into this industry so if it were to collapse for any reason they would quickly be destitute not that that is particularly likely.
