Alric

Being a hero in a place like Arbor does not make you many friends and trying to bring about social justice is more likely to get you killed than pretty much any other activity. So it should come as no surprise that people like Alric are truly rare individuals. Alric was a young mage who was a member Collegiate Arcanum and quite a gifted one at that. His specialty was in all things hidden. He had a natural talent for deception and trickery which in his younger days he used to great effect to annoy his teachers and fellow classmates with pranks of all sorts. But it was these very same skills that turned him from class prankster to perhaps one of Arbors greatest heroes to some and greatest villains to others.

"We'll never find all the books, Alric made sure of that and a part of me doesn't have the heart to make the attempt to destroy the legacy of an old friend" -un-named school mate of Alric

Appearance

Alric had short unkempt red hair that he struggled to keep under the huge hat he insisted on wearing at all time. Along with this the man was obsessed with gears and clockwork insisting on wearing bits of cogs and sprockets all over his clothes and making them whirl and chime with a flick of a wrist. He was a slight man as well rake thin but with quite a handsome face some of the staff said that he missed his calling and should have been an actor on a stage somewhere.

Personality

This of course is a matter of contention, his classmates would call Alric a trouble maker always looking for someone to prank or play a trick on. His friends would say that he only ever played the tricks on those who may have deserved it or needed a laugh on a hard day. His teachers said he was brilliant if a little lazy wondering why he simply didn't apply himself. When he became a teacher though his colleagues thought of him as mysterious wondering why his classrooms were always full with students hanging on every word of lectures about the fundamentals of magic and it's inherent properties to deceive but that through that deception could be found truth. For the thousands that he helped inspire to break the Colleges hold on magic they thought of him as some sort of hero enigmatic and brave. For the College they viewed him as dangerous, perhaps he was all of these things and more Alric was a complicated person doing extrodinary things or maybe he was just the right person trying to make things better.

Background

Alric Began life in the Second Ring his parents had him assessed early when he displayed an ability to make his food disappear from his plate. When the people from the colleges came and confirmed it his parents spent their entire savings attempting to pay for the schooling of course it was not enough so he was told when he was done he would work for the college until his debt was paid like most people from his background.
During school his natural talents made him the class prankster but Alric seemed to have a good head on his shoulders and never took it too far and was well liked by everyone in his class, low and high born a rare gift in a person to bridge that cultural divide. Perhaps it was that that made him rage so much against the Colleges policies for those who could not afford the tuition. He would only need work for a few years while some of his classmates would be in servitude for their entire lives. Often Alric rages against this unfairness to any who would listen, though most took it as a teenager rebelling against the establishment and paid it no mind.
When Alric finished school he was sent out on assignments and on one of these and like so many of them there were casualties in fact Alric was the only person to come back from his group investigating the Loss of Number 9, what he witnessed and the carless regard for life changed him that day and a resolution to not let the College do as they wished to people whose only fault was being born poor.
Alric in secret created a self replicating, cloaked manual on basic magical education. He took some of what he learned about the Memoria he had encountered and it's staying power to create the object. When he was finished he released the book into the poorest Branch's in Arbor and slowly let it do it's work.
Of course the college eventually caught him and figured out what he had done. At this point no one is sure what they did with Alric his knowledge of certain deceptive magics was second to none after all so it's plausible he got away but no one has heard from Alric not so much as a whisper so if he's hiding he is biding his time for something.

Relationships

Alric had more than one relationship growing up in the school and as any student of the school will tell you when you aren't in class or studying there isn't much else to do so students get up to what students would get up to. Despite this though there has never been any confirmation of a long term relationship or any children Alric might have sired and in fact his parents died of a disease a few years after he entered the school so there is no one to claim a fortune or anything related to him.

Nominally The Unseen hold Alric in regard as their founder and if he is alive their leader.
