A scavenger picks through an ancient cairn. Among the bones lie old and pitted bronze urns, but the fungi that have nested in the ancient tomb vomit a cloud of spores at the would-be grave-robber.   In Patala, settlers strike into tunnels they thought unknown and unsettled, only to find antedeluvian markings and old, forgotten cities.   In the deepest part of the world, where only monsters roam, a lonely human skull - ancient beyond reckoning - watch the passage of time from the dark.
