What happened with Garde?

Rashid was talking with Garde near Frostgrave. He reasoned the golem has a soul.

What Rashid doesn't know:

Garde's soul was ripped from a human being. That's why Garde says Rashid reminds Garde of someone. Of himself. The person who became Garde had some magical talent. It was a mass operation to make many golems. (The gods may have brought down retribution?)
