Blackwing Regiment
The Blackwing Regiment is the foremost elite military unit in the Empire of Illarescia. Under the emperor's direct command, the Regiment serves the rightful ruler of the realm and protects the emperor from threats, snuffs out rebellion, and guards important emissaries to the empire.

The Regiment is composed of six companies of 250 soldiers each. Each company specializes in a different aspect of warfare, such as battlefield engineering, medicine, and infiltration, and are known by their nicknames rather than their official designation. If required in smaller force, each company is comprised of 10 units of 25 men, and the units can be mobilized separately if the commander of the company deems it necessary.
- 1st Company (Callzan's Company) -- So nicknamed after the company's first commander, Callzan Wocleard, who led his men through the long march from Poderos to fight the Trilmoans during the Silver Schism. They are the first company sent out to fight and are the most experienced in front-line combat.
- 2nd Company (the Walking Angels) -- The Regiment's medical company. They are well-known and a welcome sight among citizens of the Empire, as the emperor frequently sends them on humanitarian missions. Most are trained as battlefield medics, though they all learn how to fight.
- 3rd Company (the Bloody 3rd) -- Known as the "bloody" due to the number of people they are rumored to have disappeared and perhaps the least favored company by the populace. They specialize in repressing rebellion and tracking traitors to the Empire.
- 4th Company (the Prairie Devils)-- Many of the members come from the Black Prairie. They are personal company assigned to the emperor, serving as his protection detail. They also guard important emissaries to the Empire.
- 5th Company (Tropic Raiders) -- Nicknamed for the fact that most members of the company hail from the Windless Wilds jungle in the heart of Illarescia. Another combat-oriented company, the Tropic Raiders specialize in conducting lightning-fast attacks against the enemy.
- 6th Company (The Blast-proof Sixth) -- Versed in artillery, long range attack, fortification, and explosives, the Sixth provides support to other companies on the battlefield, rarely being sent out alone. They occasionally are sent out to complete public works, much like the Walking Angels.
