Alcanor the Heartless
One of the greatest necromancers of his age, Alcanor gained the title "the Heartless" from his unethical human experimentation. While his body died over 300 years ago, the genius mage found a way to bind his soul to a tome containing his vast knowledge, awaiting the day someone will open it and release him once again into the world.

Personal history
Alcanor lived 300 years ago in Eien, around the time the city was becoming a major cultural capital. He was one of the councilors to the first Lord Professor, but, due to his unethical experimentation on citizens he deemed filthy, he was fired from his position and banished. There are no records of the 20 years he spent away from the city, but he did return at the end of his life despite the banishment. Out of pity for the old mage, the second Lord Professor allowed him to spend his final days in Eien and his collection of books were incorporated into the Repository after his death. Fifty years later, one of the Keepers stumbled upon his work and used the knowledge to stage a minor rebellion in the northern part of the country. Since then, Alcanor's work was deemed too dangerous and is now confined to a warded and guarded part of the Repository.
Taboos
Alcanor became obsessed with finding a way to purify those he deemed filthy. He was known for taking the homeless off the streets and subjecting them to experiments. He thought that he could make them clean again by sending them to the heavenly plane, having Mea'hana cleanse them, and then returning them to the material plane. Unfortunately, none of his subjects completed the journey; instead of being transported to the Heavenly Plane, their spirits got stuck without Na'huane to guide them to the afterlife (the Heavenly Plane). They became unanchored spirits, wreaking havoc in their fury and pain. Over time, Alcanor began using these poor spirits in his necromantic studies, but the specific knowledge is locked inside his forbidden tomes.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
While in his 20 year exile from Eien, Alcanor traveled the world, eventually making his way to the Republic of Invercia. There, he met Malama, the original Soulspeaker and mistress of necromantic magic. He became her apprentice, learning much about souls and their final destination from Malama. Their relationship became more involved, and Alcanor believed Malama was the only person in the world who could understand him and his work. He dedicated his life to finding a way to stay by her side. Towards the end of his life, he returned to Eien with a partial solution. He encoded his soul into a tome, hoping one day someone would activate the magic inside to give him another chance at finding eternal life.
