This technology is based on magnetic levitation, it has various uses mainly in transportation. It's used in vehicles--such as trains, buses, and cars; moving carts, and floating houses or city platforms. 
This technology incorporates the basic understanding of magnetics---the rules of magnetic forces, like poles repel each other, and opposites attract---to lift, propel, and guide a vehicle over a track (or guideway), propulsion and levitation may often involve the use of superconducting materials, electromagnets, diamagnets, and rare-earth magnets. Some vehicles use induced electric current that causes magnetism. 
Early use of this technology had problems with friction and air resistance. Aetherian scientists have figured out multiple ways to overcome these problems. One way is to use vacuum tubes that the train runs through, another is to create a shield around the train that reduces the air friction. Oddly the smaller vehicles are slower than the larger ones because the larger ones can hold larger magnets and power sources. 
Maglev vehicles have several advantages over conventional vehicles. They are less expensive to operate and maintain, they don't wear out quickly as there are few moving parts. Derailment is almost impossible---since there are no wheels or rails---they float above the power rail or are equidistant between the sides of the tunnel.
The vehicles are minimalistic but comfortable, run on automatic, and are connected to the networked GPS AI. Trains usually travel from city to city, stopping along the way. Different-sized vehicles can go different routes, GPS coordinates only need to be spoken.  The trains can travel at great speeds---up to 400 mph. Fast trains have inertial dampeners to protect the passengers.
Small, powerful thrusters powered by a fusion of magical and technological energy provide forward and directional movement. These thrusters help the train travel at such high speeds.
