Gravity Stones

Gravity stones were formed when the Skylands were thrown into the sky. They are concentrated gravitonic force. When magnetism is applied to them in certain ways, they move the direction it is applied.

Properties

Material Characteristics

These stones are a flat black, but smooth rock. They are lighter than they look. Many of them come in hexagonal or geometric shapes, round and cylinders are rare.

Geology & Geography

They are found at the base of most of the lower Skyland islands (underneath).

Origin & Source

Iron ore is where they are most commonly found. The past gravitic effect transformed them.

History & Usage

History

The stones that he found, were filed away because no one could find a use for them. Years later, his great-grandson Lucien finally found a use for them. While his sister Richeldis was researching with magnetism they discovered that the gravity stone reacted to the shifts in gravity. This led to research into the uses of combining these elements.

At first, they attached it to a wagon and were able to steer it in the direction desired. Next, they installed it in a small airship, this worked even better. When they linked it to a ship with a propulsion system they were amazed at the improved steering. Socketing it into a Skystone Generator boosted performance, speed, and steering off the charts. This opened up a new branch of study in the Mechanist guild. Lucien and Richeldis were soon offered jobs with many companies, mainly from Brightstone Industries.

Discovery

Gravity stones were discovered by Tobey Vandis, a miner. He was searching for resources in some of the deepest tunnels below Skylandia. Most of them have been tapped out, while he was exploring, he found a new type of ore. He brought some back with him to the metallurgist/assayer.

Everyday use

They are used for attitude and steering control of large Skyships.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Many believe that this will allow Skyships to now travel below the layer of air that stops ships from traveling to the surface of Aquatica. The people of the Skylands have been trapped here for 2 centuries and wish to revisit their homeland far below. [What they don't know is the damage the Chaos Wars brought to the surface world.]

Refinement

Gravity Stones need to be "tuned" to the sky stones that they are to be paired with. This helps to harmonize their vibrations and reduce the resonance with the hull of the ship.

Hazards

Stones that are out of "sync" with their counterpart, can cause a dangerous resonance that will destabilize the hull.
