Daelon

Written by Pookas Kreations

Daelon is descended from Daelic, the ancient halfling language. It evolved over the years of their travels and gradually was forgotten by most of the Travelers except the elders and Shamans. It is a dead language for the most part, except in religious ceremonies. Ceremonies, prayers, blessings, and rituals are all spoken in Daelic, and the Traveler shamans can use it as a common ritual language regardless of where they're from. Some of the basic syntaxes have also been borrowed by the thieve's guild.

Writing System

The first Daelic alphabet was pictograms that depicted words, gradually specific sounds were decided on that would become letters. After coming of contact with other races, they saw the use of having their own written language all there own. The early pictograms are still used for religious purposes. Their language is a secret that is not shared with outsiders.

Geographical Distribution

Mostly in Atlantia, but wherever Travelers can be found.

Phonology

Daelic has been described as being very sibilant in nature, mimicking various natural sounds. Wind through the grass, crickets chirping, calling of a bird, barking of a dog, etc.

Morphology

Gradually as they came into contact with other races, words soon evolved. Daelon kept many of the sounds of Daelic, but incorporated words borrowed from these languages. An alphabet and a written language soon developed. Many of their words had long vowels and short consonants. They soon created a pidgin of various languages to enable them to trade with outsiders with ease.
