These rays were caused by a combination of deadly solar radiation that was launched from the Avori systems' largest sun. A rogue comet with an eccentric orbit skimmed the sun and caused a neutron reaction within its corona. This event causes a chemical reaction in the sun, changing its composition, and causing unstable solar flares. 
These flares irradiatedAvalon, its people, and other living organisms on the surface. Weakening its ionosphere, and magnetic field.
