Elturgard Overview

The Empire of Two Suns, the realm that was dragged through hell and back. Fertile fields and vineyards stretch across the plains of this region including strange flora and fauna brought here from the nine hells. Walking through the cities you won't see a godless person, everyone here worships the gods and shows that they do. Thanks to this unwavering worship, the gods have blessed this land with the Chosen of Amaunator, Cyridal Solair, who has installed a permanent defense as well as memorial known as the Cleansing Sun which bars all undead and fiends from existing within the region between the Sunset Mountains and the Wood of Sharp Teeth. This sun gives off no heat or intense light and rises as the normal sun sets.   Established: 1425 DR

The worship of Lathander is heavily looked down upon in Elturgard, the last priest of Lathander being one who tried to herald the destruction of Elturel through use of Hell Powers. It was said that Cyridal Solair, the current leader, killed this man who threatened the cities defense.   History
In 1425 DR Elturgard was created after convincing other cities to join their empire in exchange for vast amounts of food, excellent protection from threats, and great trade deals. The name Elturgard comes from the proposed name of the Empire, Elturel's Guard, in lieu of offering protection; however, it was easier on the tongue to combine the two.   In 1444 DR the leader of Elturel was discovered to be a Vampire who had been nourishing himself on the people within the city. He fled but led an undead army against the city. Each night the people of Elturel wished for the dawn to come sooner and one night it did. The Companion, the infamous second sun of Elturel appeared. It burned as bright as the sun and washed the city in divine light, killing any undead that came within 50 miles of it. The people thought it a gift from the gods and Thavius Kreeg, the High Observer which took the Vampires place claimed it was his creation due to him leading the prayers in the city.   The Companion remained in place and over time the miracle brought pilgrims to Elturel: the sick, the curious, and the devout of many faiths, including many paladins. After them came hundreds of people who'd fled the menace of undead of one kind or another, who came to Elturgard for protection and settled there, particularly in Elturel. The High Observer, Thavius Kreeg, then established the Order of the Companion and the Creed Resolute to keep the paladins of different faiths in order.   Thavius Kreeg was thought to be this great leader and the light in the night; however, he was far from that. Thavius Kreeg had made a deal with the Archdevil Zariel, leader of the first layer of the Nine Hells Avernus, that the people of Elturel would be saved by the Companion now, but the city would be literally dragged to hell when the time was right.   In 1480 DR that time had came and Elturel was dragged to Avernus. The Companion turned a stark black with this blue lightning surrounding it; however, not all of the citizens were present at the time such as the future Hero of Elturel, Cyridal Solair. This led to the the people of Elturel investigating and travelling to places around the region. The first one to find any clue was Cyridal Solair who had found a Puzzle Box from the nine hells as well as the High Observer, Thavius Kreeg, relaxing in some mansion in Baldur's Gate enjoying his corrupt and horrible life. Cyridal also found a shield known as the Shield of the High Lord, which held a powerful devil inside of it. Cyridal, the young cleric managed to cleanse such a cursed object in his search and found that the location which Elturel had been taken was Avernus. He and a group of travelers ventured to the Hells and found Elturel in ruins, most people from the city safe in a hidden bunker.   During his ventures in Avernus he destroyed many devilish and demonic items and even closed portals leading to the Abyss. The God he followed, Amaunator, sought out Cyridal and requested him to do the unthinkable, cleanse the Archdevil that dragged his city to hell into a pure celestial spirit, and destroy the Companion, the Sun of Heresy. But he did both, cleansing the Archdevil Zariel in Cyridal's Divine Fire which was said to be able to harm even fire elementals, and destroying the Companion with the help of his Angelic friend, Ariah. Elturel was saved and the people watched Cyridal's victory over the entirety of Avernus, and they left that nightmare behind.   In 1483 DR, after wounds begun to heal and the city was getting back to its glorious self Cyridal Solair became the most popular person of the people and did many ceremonies to commemorate the dead he could not save. Cyridal eventually became known as "The Requiem of Elturel" and was one of the most renowned heroes in the history of Elturgard. The people appointed Cyridal to be the next High Observer and he made sure to not repeat the mistakes of the last one, installing an entirely knew government which ensured that the High Observer was watched at all times, 24/10 (get it). In one of the ceremonies Cyridal arranged a mysterious figure voice from the heavens, increasing the temperature of the day to sweltering degrees, and illuminating the city in a glow of divine eminence, called out and proclaimed Cyridal Solair to be his chosen, and that he would lead the Empire of Two Suns into the next glorious age. With the applause of everyone seeing a god enter the prime material plane for the first time in a few hundred years the people of Elturgard were astounded and praised Cyridal as a savior.   In 1485 DR Cyridal gathered everyone for the fifth anniversary of return to the prime material and Cyridal blessed the city with the Cleansing Sun, a second sun that would not destroy the city, and was truly a gift from Amaunator. The Cleansing Sun rose and set like the normal sun and destroyed any fiend or undead that entered Elturgard in its entirety and ensured a safe defense of Elturgard for the rest of Eternity.
