Cindralis
Cindralis is a city found in the Wulag region of Murkys. Cindralis was a city of enlightenment and arcane mastery, its towering spires visible for miles across Wulag’s otherwise dismal swamps. It was renowned for its Academy of Radiant Arcanum, a center of magical study and innovation that attracted scholars and mages from across Murkys. The city was powered by arcane reactors, massive crystalline structures that hummed with radiant energy and lit the city with an almost divine glow. Cindralis’s scholars had long sought to harness the magic of the swamps, believing that Wulag’s toxicity could be alchemically refined into potent reagents for magical crafting. Their experiments pushed the boundaries of what was possible, but some whispered that they also broke sacred taboos, meddling with forbidden forces hidden beneath the swamp’s filth.
When the curse of undeath spread across Murkys, the arcane reactors of Cindralis overloaded, triggering a catastrophic chain reaction that reduced the city to smoldering ruin. The explosion unleashed a torrent of corrupted arcane energy, turning the once-proud city into a desolate wasteland of ash and molten stone. The skies above Cindralis became permanently blackened with ash clouds, and the land around the city is scorched and lifeless. The people of Cindralis did not escape the curse. Many of the mages and scholars were transformed into Ashwraiths, spectral beings made of smoke and flame who haunt the ruins of the city. Others were reduced to Cinderborn, husks of charred flesh that endlessly wander the rubble, their minds shattered by the cataclysm.
Despite its destruction, Cindralis remains a place of power, though that power is dark and twisted. The ruins of The Ashen Spire, the tallest and most significant of the city’s towers, still hum with unstable magic. The cursed arcane reactors occasionally erupt, sending waves of ash and fire across the landscape. Desperate scavengers risk the dangers of Cindralis in search of magical relics and knowledge left behind. However, the city itself seems to resist these intrusions, with its ashen ruins shifting and reshaping like a living labyrinth.
