Perhaps the oldest civilizations in Aotra began in Lar Aslaki, a vast nation sprawling across the southern polar jungles. Lar Aslaki is a particularly lush land, its natural wonders eclipsing even its ancient architectural wonders. Contemporarily, Lar Aslaki hosts the Southern Capital, a complex that houses meetings of the representatives of the Circle of Nine.
Many regional cultures within Lar Aslaki tend to value druidic magic over arcane magic, and Lar Aslaki has much less arcane-technological infrastructure than most other nations of the Circle. As a result, Lar Aslaki was affected rather mildly by the Severing, and the Severing-related loss of life in Lar Aslaki is estimated to be lower than almost every other nation; Lar Aslaki lost less than 15% of its population in the Severing.
A historic alliance of several clans forms the basis for the nation's government. In the nation's formative years, the clans were strictly bounded by familial relations. Now, one's clan has as much to do with one's region of origin as it does with one's actual ancestry. The nation's legislative and judicial authority is the Aslakan Senate, whose forty-nine representatives are elected by the clans, with seven senators coming from each of the seven clans. Lar Aslaki's representative within the Circle of Nine is Kisin As-Kianto, a senator elected by the Afira clan who has served on the Aslakan Senate for almost 25 years.
