DM's Report: Pheasant, elves, and rumours

In which social graces are put to the test and alliances are discussed.

General Summary

Gathering together in the Broken Barrel Inn the heroes met with Gord Goodeman to be taken to dinner at Berrek's house. There they met Berrek's wife, Doria, Mother Phaedra, Ser Padraig Malone and Lady Tirendal. Ser Padraig was in the process of escorting Lady Tirendal to Dalestone before proceeding on to Northgarde. Geoffrey Staltman was also in attendance.   Padraig was by far the most vocal of the group, a jovial young knight excited to see the world. He spoke of troubles up North and told the group many of The Poor-Man's Knights of the Radiant Dawn were gathering to help defend the town against Ursian attacks.   Lady Tirendel meanwhile was being sent to help rebuild the bridge south of Dalestone which had collapsed in the earthquake. Following that she planned to go to Dalestone itself. Pijarr asked her about the moon-touched blade and Lady Tirendel recognized it as a weapon used by an ancient band of warriors who sought out daring deeds in the name of Mekeiel. She also noted the heroes had faced multiple dangers that involved things revealing themselves from the depths of the earth, and thought this interesting.   It was also discussed with Geoffrey Staltman that the group may want to return to the caverns below the gaol to investigate further--and double check that they hadn't missed any treasure.   As the evening came to a close after a wonderful feast of marsh pheasant, it was noticed that Gord moved to help and spend time with Berrek's daughter, Gloria.   On their way back to the inn Mother Phaedra asked to accompany the heroes. As they spoke it was realized she had a matter of some urgency to deal with, so they followed her to the Church of Myander (Quickmarch). There she told them she is awaiting the arrival of a contact at Lowgrange Abbey who will need a powerful escort to their next destination. Though she feels Ser Padraig is likely an honest and just man, she has conerns about the knighthood as a whole and corruption within it, something this contact should have information about. She hoped they might assist by meeting this contact and escorting them to their next destination. The group decided they could not guarantee where that they would provide an escort but they would at least check on the contact and see what they could do.   Finally everyone returned to their rooms for a night's rest.   The next morning the Quickmarch market was one of the liveliest they had thus far seen. Alara Dell’anonn made sure to keep her appointment with Helja Hammerk, accompanied by Vyth and Mortimer. Vyth purchased a pair of apparently plain spectacles which Helja had previously shown her. Helja then noted that Alara seemed to have had a change of heart way from mystic arts. After hearing of their travel plans she told Alara to go to the Great Library in Dalestone and research formians. "Ask for glasses," she stated.   Back in the market Vyth remembered something, "I need to find a gnome!" Searching the market she found the gnome she was looking for: one Gilbert Gelbert.   Meanwhile George and Pijarr went to buy supplies for travel and further cave exploration. They arranged the purchase of a horse, carriage, and rations for several days, as well as 300' of rope.
