The Chain Breakers Military Conflict in Anvilheim | World Anvil

The Chain Breakers

The Anvil Guard hold their duty to protect the World Anvil and the multiverse, as a sacred duty. Among these duties is the protection of the World Anchors, conduits in which architects can allow power from the Anvil to flow into their world, nurturing them and allowing them to continue the process of creation.   Siera was an architect who believed that a realm was only truly perfect once isolated from the influence of other architects and rid of the World Anvil. Siera created the Chain Breakers, an order of Knights Templar who would launch incursions upon other realms with the goal of destroying their World Anchors, thus "freeing them" and making them perfect.   ------ The First Contact   The Anvil Guard were not always aware of the threat the Chain Breakers presented, no one had ever torn the World Anchors free before, and it was thought to have been an impossible task, as the World Anchors were constructed from the same near-indestructible material as the World Anvil itself. The first victim of the Chain Breakers was Los Lobo 2019, a cyberpunk world at the height of civilization, plagued by corporations and ruled by artificial intelligence. This realm was prepared to receive its first divine heroes to journey it's expanse when tragedy struck. As the divine heroes were traveling to this world, the Chain Breakers loosed the Anchor and cast those unfortunate few into oblivion and the realm into the Null.   Eventually, a total of three worlds were lost before the Anvil Guard found those responsible and also learned of the Chain Breakers' hatred for the guardians of the Anchor. The first battle against the Chain Breakers was fierce and the Anvil Guard was only barely able to repel them and only through great sacrifice and the deployment of their mightiest weapon.    ------------- The War of the Anchor   The Anvil Guard and Chain Breakers have warred across countless worlds with the Anvil Guard walking away victorious more times than not, but each lost battle means a world taken from the multiverse and a surge in the numbers of Chain Breakers. It is prophesied that when the last chain breaks, the World Anvil will lose the last of its cosmic spark and return to the forge from whence it came. This is a prophecy the Keeper Luren'skir has been fighting to prevent and hopefully will overturn entirely.
