Ostenthaig

Ostenthaig is a dwarven city/fort, its name stems from the ancient dwarven words for east and fortress. Once upon a time every single dwarf clan had it's own thaig but when Krieg-Kleru-Erst, the deliverer, was forming was forming his army against the dragons dwarves flocked to him by the thousands several clans gave up the majority of their warriors. This forced several clans to relocate into larger thaigs, one of which was the Eisdodger clan thaig. After it absorbed the clans who's thaigs had fallen it was renamed to Osten thaig because it was the eastern most thaig left after the deliverer went south.

Demographics

Unique among the Dwarven thaigs Ostenthaig has a small human population the Icewalker clan is mostly humans. The other clans of Ostenthaig are all taller and slightly more slender than your average dwarf, supposedly from breeding with humans.

Government

Ostenthaig is inhabited by 5 dwarf clans and a mostly human one who functions identically to the others; The Eisdodger clan is the largest and most powerful in the thaig, Ostenthaig was originally their thaig before the return. The other clans in order of size are Leadbelly, Gletchler, Bearenfreund, Bloodberg, and the human Icewalker clan. Every clan is headed up by an Uberkleru who has a place in the Kaiser's court and runs the clan often delegating to trusted other Kleru. Each clan also has an Unberkleru-Frau who oversees the women of the tribe, neither is above the other but they hold separate spheres of power within the clan. The Kaiser gives up his clan when he ascends to the skull throne, so as to be impartial in disputes between clans, but there has yet to be a Kaiser not from the Goldbrauer clan. The Krieger-erst also has a place in the Kaiser's court, like the Kaiser he gives up his clan when he takes the spear throne but the position has yet to be filled by a non Goldbrauer. The Kaiser has ultimate power over the thaig but he cannot deny these core people positions. They are sort of like forced advisors. In addition any Kleru may challenge their UberKleru for control of the tribe, these formal occasions are held in the throne room. The Kaiser chooses his successor then each Uberkleru has the right to challenge them in order of smallest clan to largest. If the heir isn't challenged or succeeds in their challenges they ascend the skull throne, if they fail the next in line will attempt the same thing or the head Uberkleru will claim the throne, going through the subsequent challenges.
