Torog is one of the new gods, along with Sehanine and Raven Queen , coming to power only in the Age of Gods. As mortals rose up across the material plane, they learned not only of death, and dreams, but of the cruelty in between. As tribes warred and fortunes changed, new roles were found among societies; slavers, gaolers, and torturers. Torog, dwelling deep in The Underdark felt an affinity to these and grew in strength and power whenever mortals willingly enslaved or tortured other mortals.
Torog's most hated rivals are Corellon for his love of beauty and his propensity for magical escape from any that would bind him, and Kord , for the hope his followers have, the strength they show in the face of adversity and their dying breaths that deny their captors any further pleasure.
