Southern Guardian Rank/Title in Animora | World Anvil

Southern Guardian

A Southern Guardian is a guardian entity of the wildlands of The Veiled Expanse; the southern reaches of southern Enokk, an area hidden by fogs of incomprehension, seperated from the rest of the world by a veil knowledge can never cross.   Southern Guardians are universally beings capable of driving off monsters and calamity from the area they protect. The majority of them guard a singular area, usually a village, town, or in the particularly powerful cases, a city or even a tiny country. The bigger areas such as towns may have vilalges that are also protected, and in a similar fashion, cities may have towns, and countries may even have several cities, though there are very few countries present within this land.   Most Southern Guardians inhabit the dominion they guard, and they almost universally possess near absolute power politically and socially within their dominion, though there are exceptions.     Southern Guardians possess certian universal traits thanks to the common belief of the people in the region:
  • Their mere presence keeps most monsters at bay
  • They are empowered through the rituals that honor them and the faith and prayers given to them
  • They slowly grow in power the longer they protect their dominion
  • They keep the woods at bay in an area that scales with their power
  • They gain resistance to decay, aging slower, needing less sustenance, growing resistant to disease and even finding themselves more resistant to damage
  •

    Entities often confused with Guardians

    The Veiled Enigma

The Veiled Enigma is a phenonema that surrounds much of the southern parts of Enokk. It is a fog not made of water that seem to seperate the great expansed of the wild forests and general nature of the Southern Guardians from the rest of the continent, even making it nigh impossible to share knowledge from one to the other.   Few even know what The Veiled Enigma is in this context, and even fewer know that the truth is that it is the god of incomprehension, stagnation and disbelief, and that the "fog" surrounding this land is a manifistation of one of its greatest angels, tasked with containing a danger to its domain within this land.

Morana, the Veiled Reaper is the face of Death in this region.

    Description

Morana, the Veiled Reaper, is an embodiment of Death in the region separated by The Veiled Enigma. Her appearance reflects the secretive and separate nature of knowledge within the region, as well as her affinity with nature and the natural order of dying. She takes the form of an ethereal figure cloaked in a veil of shifting shadows, which obscures her true features. Her body seems to merge seamlessly with the surrounding environment, adorned with delicate, intertwining vines and foliage that symbolize the interconnectedness of life and death.

    Powers

Morana possesses the power to navigate the boundaries between life and death, overseeing the passage of souls and guiding them to their final destinations. She is intimately connected to the cycles of nature, able to sense the ebb and flow of life force and the subtle energies that permeate the realm. Her touch brings a sense of calm and acceptance, allowing souls to peacefully transition to the afterlife.

    Interests

Morana's interests lie in preserving the natural order of dying and ensuring the balance between life and death. She is attuned to the hidden knowledge and secrets of the region, safeguarding the wisdom held that is restricted by The Veiled Enigma. Morana holds a deep reverence for the interconnectedness of all living beings and the vital role that death plays in the cycle of existence.

    Personality

Morana embodies a serene and introspective demeanor, exuding a sense of quiet wisdom and understanding. She carries herself with grace and dignity, representing the acceptance of the inevitable and the beauty that can be found in the passage from one realm to another. While she is often perceived as enigmatic, her presence brings solace and comfort to those who are ready to embrace the natural course of their journey.

    Worship

Morana is not actively worshipped in a traditional sense, but she is revered and honored by the people of the region. They hold rituals and ceremonies to honor the natural order of dying and pay respect to their ancestors. The inhabitants of the region see her as a guide and protector, seeking her counsel in times of grief and loss. Through acts of reverence and remembrance, they maintain a harmonious connection with the cycle of life and death.

    Known Guardians

The following are the known guardians in the region so far. Many of them are a work in progress, and have not been filled in in full. For most of them, the text has been ai generated, with the prompt being a concept I made, and with tweaks or regenerations based on a back and forth for many of those I consider more interesting concepts.   The first few are more heavily ai generated than the rest, as is seen with their rather generic names and concepts.   The guardians are a backdrop, minor details that are of little import until interacted with by something more important in the world, and as such will likely get filled in with details, plot points or twists and possibly better names (for those whose names are terribly generic) when or if I ever focus on them.

    The Forgotten Sentinel

    Description

The Forgotten Sentinel appears as an enigmatic figure draped in tattered, ancient robes. Its form is shrouded in a misty veil that obscures its true features, leaving only a faint glimmer of silvery light emanating from within.   This entity is a Shrouded Hierophant, the most powerful rank of angel of The Veiled Enigma.

    Powers

    Master of memory
As a shrouded Hierophant, the Forgotten Sentinel has the power to control and manipulate memories within its domain. It can selectively erase or cloud memories, causing forgetfulness and diminishing the recall of past events. The Guardian can also summon protective barriers and illusions.
    Fear of the forgetful
Monsters also tend to avoid the area of its physical presence as they can sense something is horribly wrong, where sapients merely feel forgetfulness.
    Disbelief made manifest
Faith has no effect in this being's presence, it's aura of disbelief and stagnation render most domains inert when near it, making clerics, deities and others wielding divine powers unable to manifest them in its presence.   Its mere presence makes most monsters unable to form as the required focused domain neccessary for a monster to spawn cannot naturally occur, and most creatures will wish to avoid its direct presence, as it causes an instinctual unease in most sentient creatures.

    Interests

The Forgotten Sentinel is neutral towards the affairs of the outside world but exhibits hostility towards any form of innovation or progress that could disrupt the established order of its domain.   It seeks to contain the region for all eternity and ensure its task is forfilled at any cost.

    Personality

Mysterious and somber, the Forgotten Sentinel rarely speaks but exudes a sense of calm and ancient wisdom. It is dedicated to its role as an angel of The Veiled Enigma.   Its neutral stance towards the outside world reflects its focus on maintaining the status quo within its domain.

    Community and Culture

The nearby community living under the watchful gaze of the Forgotten Sentinel has a unique culture shaped by the Guardian's influence. Due to the effects of The Veiled Enigma, innovation has stagnated, and the community clings to traditional ways of living.   Memories in this region tend to fade swiftly, leading to a reliance on written works to preserve their history. The Forgotten Sentinel is seen as the guardian of their memories, ensuring that the essential aspects of their culture are preserved. The community holds regular ceremonies to honor the Guardian, seeking its guidance in times of turmoil and uncertainty.   While the region's lack of innovation may seem like a limitation, it has fostered a strong sense of unity and tradition among the people. They embrace their simpler way of life and find solace in the shared stories and customs passed down through generations. The community is content with its existence, finding comfort in the safety provided by the Forgotten Sentinel's protective influence.   Despite the occasional challenges caused by The Veiled Enigma, the people have grown resilient and adaptable. They rely on each other for support and strength, trusting in the Guardian's guidance to navigate the uncertainties of life. The Forgotten Sentinel's presence is a constant reminder of their shared history and the importance of cherishing the memories they do possess.

    Worship

The worship of the Forgotten Sentinel is a solemn and ritualistic affair, deeply intertwined with the community's culture and traditions. The people view the Guardian with reverence and awe, acknowledging its role as the protector of their way of life.   Mortals may offer up memories or knowledge to the entity on any alter within The Veiled Enigma's influence, and sacrifice them forever as a form of worship, and as a way to protect other memories from being taken.
