After living in exile for over a century, a young, charismatic leader claiming to be the heir to the House of Harew emerged in the mountains northwest of the Sea of Erin. Gathering old retainers banished to the Isle of Mernil and other small islands, as well as disgruntled residents of the wetlands to the southwest, he launched a surprise invasion of Westport in 2857 ME. Quickly gathering support from locals oppressed by the Kernish occupation, he waged a decade-long war against the invaders. At the conclusion of the war, Gelaren Harew re-established the old ruling families and rewarded generals and other key figures and families with newly formed provinces, including some on the newly annexed Kernish province of Krell.
