'Grand Reef'

Located in the shallow seas between Tamerea and the 'Scaled Continent', The 'Grand Reef' is one of the largest coral reefs in the world, and is host to a large biodiversity of creatures. Many ships must pass either around or through The 'Grand Reef' to travel between Tamerea and the 'Scaled Continent'. Now a days ships will typically go around the reef, for the shallow waters and sharp corals have sunk many a ship in the past. Only the small boats or the foolish will travel through the reef.

Fauna & Flora

The 'Grand Reef' is home to a massive amount of fish life, with dozens of new species being discovered every time a research ship passes through. Most of these fish are covered in bright colors and elaborate patterns, and are sought after for the pet trade.   In addition to smaller creatures, the young of many massive predators use The 'Grand Reef' as a nursery. The shallow waters and abundant food is an ideal place to practice their hunting techniques relatively safe from larger competitors.   Hidden among the corals lives a population of Merfolk. Beautiful like the other tropical fish, these Merfolk are shy and do not trust the land folk and their wooden ships. More and more of their kind have been trapped in the thick nets that are thrown at them, only to be dragged up into the ships, never to be see again. Recent break troughs have made it possible to keep Merfolk alive in massive fish tanks, and the rich have begun paying top dollar for beautiful specimens to keep and display in their homes as a symbol of their wealth.

Natural Resources

The 'Grand Reef' is vital to many communities for the resources that it supplies. Many generations of fishmen have visited this coral reef to supply their communities with fish.
