Summary

Long ago, the 'Ancient Ones' ruled these lands. They had learned how to use magic, the life force of the world itself, and used it for themselves. In time they managed to tame magic itself, and their was nothing they could not due. It was said that they could move mountains, summon rains, and even create life itself. They had become gods, and nothing could stop them.
What they didn't realize however, was that their actions were making the world sick, for they were using the magic faster than it could be regenerated. Then one day, there was no magic. They had used so much that there was no longer enough for them to use.
Their world fell into chaos, for they had relied on the magic too much in their day to day lives, and they disappeared. It's said that when magic fully returns to these lands, the 'Ancient One's' will return as well, and take back their place as the rulers of these lands.

Historical Basis

The 'Ancient One's' were an actual people, and they were highly advanced when it come to magic, however it is mostly believed that the reports of what they could do with said magic has been exaggerated throughout the ages.

Variations of this legend are found all across the Tamerea in one form or another. It is often mentioned when one finds 'Ancient One' ruins or artifacts.

Variations & Mutation

Many variations of this tale exist across Tamerea, with there being different tellings among all the different folk and cultures. Some tell of the 'Ancient One's' being gods, others claiming that they were from far off lands. Other variations say that the return of the 'Ancient Ones' will usher in a new era of peace and prosperity, while others claim that they will rule over the lands with an iron fist.
