Dragonhold
This fortress is one of the most ancient still-standing constructions in all the continent. It lies in northwestern Anderium within the Garthang Mountains upon Hydra Hill. Construction finished in 11 AAE, it has since served as the home and castle of the Order of the Dragon. Some simply refer to the castle as Hydra hill for it's principal location on top of the large hill.
Purpose / Function
Dragonhold was constructed by the first Immortals as a safeguard for the human, elven, dwarven, and orc settlements deeper into the eastern coast of Anderium. It's legions of Immortals held off many beasts and wild people that dwell further to the west. As the name implies, dragons were among the most common of threats in the early days; Although they still exist in the area, their numbers are not what they used to be. The fortress still serves great purpose however as it lies on the very outer edge of society.
Architecture
The fortress is built from dark stone quarried from the local mountains of Garthang. The Immortals commissioned the fortress in partnership with local dwarven and human miners who saw value in the idea of local protectors. Although masters in construction, the fortress was designed in the shape of a gothic-human castle fortress built into Hydra hill itself, not dwarven. The under-tunnels and chasms however were built by dwarves purely. The castle therefore is a great multi-species coordinated effort with elements from each culture brought to the monumental construction.
Defenses
With walls towering over any would be attacker, bells at every corner, and siege weapons en masse the fortress is a revelry in defensive warfare and has never been conquered or occupied by a foreign force. The castle is also built upon and within Hydra hill with no known weaknesses. It's elevation is the greatest of it's design.
Tourism
Although the castle has great purpose for all of Anderium, few have ever laid eyes upon this massive construction or even know of it's existence. The Immortals are not known for entertaining guests, although locals within the region often travel to trade with them.
