Scarlacre

The Scarlacre Democracy spans from the city Whakaruru in the Weatred montain range down to the Dry Cliffs in the Auburn Dale and is mostly composed out of halflings, who share a close connection to the land and to the, compared to the rest of Andaria, rather tame wildlife. The hilly grounds fluctuate between extremly loamy and fertile, most of the population lives of farming and keeping animals.

Magic

The magic of the halfling folk always strongly reflected their natural caution and specializes in concealing people and things; every magical talented halfling has some talent in the field of illusion. Over the centuries these talent increased from hiding oneself to other things halflings regarded being important. Be it a secret door to a treasure room or the larder, the entrance to a fortress or one of rumoured shortcuts through the mountains.

Structure

The Great Gryphons

Since the taming of the first gryphon, they form the backbone of the halfling military. Fast, mobile and deadly, when properly trained they are a versatile military force.

The Royal Rocs

It was only a matter of time, after the taming of the first gryphon, that a foolhardy enough halfling would try to do the same with a Roc. The surprising part is that it worked: for ages the concealed force of the Royal Rocs has been under the direct control of the Folk Chambers, only been used a few times in history.

The Folk Chambers

The Folk Chambers are the institutions where the democraticly elected representatives discuss the direction the Scarlacre Democracy should pursue. Belonging to the Folk Chambers are the Plenum, the Beiges and the Controllers, as legislative, judiciary and executive force.

The Wolfshounds

The Wolfshounds are a company of, as the name already indicates, large mounted wolfhounds, which stand out through their great speed. The training of a wolfhound is enormly difficult, especially breaking the impuls of the hunt, respectively controlling the beast to not pounce on the first prey it kills.

Public Agenda

With the expansion of Lixanthia over the complete Fertile Mantle the empire is as strong and dangerous as never before. At the same time the ambitions and megalomania of its emperors don't seem to shrink at all. Scarlacre suspects that the longer period of peace will soon end with new aggressions of Lixanthia and tries to prepare in different ways. One of these ways is the ever-growing export of the addictive mahnseeds, from which many Lixanthians are already dependent on, and which are nearly exclusively produced in Scarlacre.

Territories

Goldvalley

The fertile Goldvalley is the cradle of the halfling civilisation and its center. The largest part of food is grown and stored here.

Gryphons Kohanga

The city Gryphons Kohanga has supposedly been built on the location, where the first gryphon was tamed. Nowadays it is an active mining city and the main training place of the Gryphon Guards.

Hamamea

Hamamea lies to the north of Goldvalley clinging to the mountain range and is one of the oldest cities in Scarlacre. The mountains are full of iron and Hamamea has excavated and processed it, producing weapons and equipment for the whole region for millennia.

Kahupekatoka

The mining city Kahupekatoka is the second biggest breeding and training place of gryphons. From here the whole southern area of the Auburn Dale is monitored.

Kohanga

The second northern fortress next to Tokacarved, supervises the riverine traffic of the rivers Long Elex and Drax. The city has a rather large percentage of old-established human residents.

Kuwaha

In the east of Goldvalley the heavily fortified Kuwaha blockades the only built path into the valley. The fortress reaches deep into the mountain, in which bunker and storage rooms have been hewn.

Raumati

The capital of Scarlacre Raumati lies central in Goldvalley next to the Silverdew lake. It is one of the oldest cities in Scarlacre and head office of the Folk Chambers, which governs Scarlacre. The city is also one of the largest granaries, storing large quantities of the agricultural produces.

Tokacarved

Resting against the Weatred mountain range the city Tokacarved protects Scarlacre, with the facing Kohanga, against enemies coming from the north. The stone in combination with the steel, that is mined here has withstood every attack until now.

Whero Docks

On the southwestern corner of the Auburn Dale lies the bustling Whero Docks, one of the few halfling war ports. From here many merchant ships from all around the world dock, to load or unload merchandise.

Religion

Due to their close to nature way of life most halflings worship Kinara, Eydreen and Roohl. Also, but a little less, venerated are the deities Iolatan and Xeres.

Foreign Relations

The relationships of Scarlacre are mostly of economical nature, apart from the long friendly connections with the gnome province Irux Valor. Scarlacre exports some of its food, but its main export goods are more of an inebriant nature. The sunlit hillside produce masses of grapes, which are fermented to high quality wine, large parts of the yearly cereal and potato harvest is distilled into schnapps. In addition there are two further hafling specialties: tobacco and mahnseeds. Both highly addictive plants, which are enjoyed all over Andaria and fetch good prices.
