Vlasiriona

The Mind Stones

Of the subtler magics in Anatéli, the art of transferring one’s memory to an object is among the most fascinating and useful. It has been discovered, in separate instances, by both the Mele and Idnoqual. The mele prefer to transfer their memories into stones, while idnoquali tribes have only learned to use the roots of certain trees for the process. The Léttanya word used for such objects is vlasirion, or “mind stone.” In the case of the mele, for much of their history, the vlasiriona have stood in place of writing. With such a powerful tool in their hands, written communication has been rendered obsolete. In the case of the idnoquali tribesmen, vlasiriona contribute little to communication but primarily serve as couriers for the wisdom of deceased elders.

Utility

Among the mele, vlasiriona are used as a substitute for written communication, though more importantly, they record the history of their race. Among the idnoqual, use is limited to the preservation of the memories of the deceased. To tap into a vlasirion, one must only touch it with the intent to receive the information it contains.

Human Use

While humans are incapable of creating Vlasiriona, they are still able to benefit from the wisdom they contain by interfacing with them. Since the original historical Vlasiriona are extremely valuable and cannot be effectively copied onto lesser stones for common consumption, some human scholars have undertaken the arduous task of converting the knowledge they contain into written translations. Pergannic of Ios is a notable example of one such scholar.

Access & Availability
Use by the mele of Alay is common in every facet of life and vlasiriona can be found wherever their culture has spread. Among the idnoqual, however, it is a closely guarded secret known only to village elders and passed down to their successors. Men can use them, however, only a trained mind can focus the rush of information into something useful.
Complexity
Vlasiriona are fairly simple, requiring only a suitable object and a creature with the ability to transfer its thoughts and memories to that object. While any stone can be used, smoother stones are more effective and their power can be enhanced when inscribed with certain symbols and patterns.
Discovery
All records of the first Vlasiriona are lost, the earliest stones having been broken during the purge of Ev-Anyaron.
The holy gems of Lamorien are, in fact, Vlasiriona. They hold the collective knowledge and memory of centuries of Lamorien emperors and kings. Whoever holds the stones bears all the knowledge, memory, and wisdom of the Lords of the Alay.
