Léttanya

Fil léttanya sé meorna. Fil léttanya sé fealné.
Léttanya is the native language of the Mele. It is spoken widely throughout Anatéli wherever the mele have held influence throughout the ages. Léttanya has no alphabet of its own, as the Vlasiriona make writing obsolete for the mele. Instead, it borrows the Tokérnic script of men whenever writing is necessary.

History

According to the Vlasirion Ewit, Léttanya was the language given to Enenvir by Ven Létinor when he was awoken in Ev-Anyaron during the Year of Blossoms. Tradition tells that Enenvir taught this speech to the four patriarchs, who passed it on to those who awoke after them. As time wore on and peoples separated, their language changed with them, resulting in the four recognized dialects.

Dialects

Within Léttanya there exist for main dialects: High Léttanya, Létta Bévere, Létta Orabrak, and Létta Mastal. While many words and pronunciations have shifted between them, speakers of one can generally understand speakers of another. Due to long-term separation or borrowed words from Old Mastalic, Létta Bévere and Létta Mastal are more difficult for the typical Alay mel to understand.
  • High Léttanya is spoken by the nobility among the mele, and by many who live in Avonia.
  • Létta Bévere is spoken almost exclusively by the Bévere.
  • Létta Orabrak is spoken by mele who reside in the various island settlements of the Alay.
  • Létta Mastal is the variant of Léttanya spoken by many of the human inhabitants of Deklonia.

Geographical Distribution

Léttanya is spoken in all mellic lands, in all of Deklonia south of the Gladrush River, and in most port cities throughout Anatéli.
