Halmar the Conqueror of Areweil made his mark on history in 2337 when he retook the kingdoms of Bélir, Laridia, and Entilien from the Lamorien Empire in a fierce military campaign. With seemingly divine force, he drove the mele from the lands of men and established a new empire over which he would rule.

Personal history

Named Halmarin Frirric Nurnentor, the conqueror-to-be began his life in the Palasia region of Areweil at the height of Lamorien rule. Raised in the fortress city of Kahir, the Lamorien oppression of his people affected him strongly in his childhood, and he dedicated himself to overthrowing their power. Educating himself in combat and politics at Ios, he attracted a sizable group of supporters, but his rising popularity also brought unwanted attention from those in power.
Halmar and his followers hid in the wilderness where they grew in strength and number, but their might alone was not enough to face the Lamorien head-on. Rumors reached him of a magical weapon that could force the mele from the land. However, this weapon was kept deep within the Lamorien homeland across the sea. Not dissuaded, Halmar hired the services of a renowned thief: Olaf of Belgros. Olaf, though narrowly escaping death, managed to retrieve the item for Halmar.
With his newfound power, Halmar set out at once with his men and marched on Ios. Though he was heavily outnumbered, merely revealing the weapon to his enemies forced their surrender. He continued his campaign in much the same way, liberating each of the old kingdoms of men and taking them under his own rule. When his war was ended, no mele save those in Eanonalien remained in Deklonia.

Education

Halmar received his formal education at The Kotivarium in Ios from 2321 until 2326, where he studied the classics with an emphasis in traditional poetry, history, and rhetoric. His military education came at the hands of his tutor, the famous swordsman Miaccoló go'Pádos who resided in the Ios court.
