The Codex

The Best of the Best. Founded in 6861 by Alyxander at Ioth Academy, The Codex is a burgeoning academic society dedicated to scholastic excellence and preserving the traditions of Ioth himself.

Structure

  • Scholars are the best of the best. The elite of Ioth Academy who excel academically, and have the raw talent to back it up. The scholars are currently made up of the three founding members of the Codex, but it is said that the Codex is open to promoting an existing Academic into a Scholar, if all of the Scholars unanimously agree upon it, and are fit and deserving of the position.

  • Academics are recognized for their exceptional academic success, as well as their ability to excel beyond expectations. These are members who have demonstrated talent well beyond their years, and are entrusted with recommending new Codex members to the Scholars for consideration. Academics are also entrusted with bestowing tasks on any ranking lower than them within reason, with the purpose of bettering the Codex. For example; An academic may task a Novice with retrieving books from the library, an apprentice with delivering a note to a professor, or an Intermediate with helping them practice a spell.

  • Intermediates are essentially junior officers, they do not possess any real power, such as the Academics, but show a lot of promise and are on the track to become an Academic if they continue to show consistent improvements academically, and value to the Codex. Intermediates who aspire to become an Academic are encouraged to be the ones to help Academics with any tasks.

  • Students are the average codex member. They typically meet, or even exceed some expectations, while lacking in others, but show an aptitude for growth.

  • Novices are members who check the boxes of the Codex’ requirements, but rarely exceed them. Novices are usually either Apprentices who get promoted due to seniority as opposed to academic effort, or students who stop exceeding expectations in some fields, and get demoted.

  • Apprentices are members who check all the boxes of the Codex’ requirements, but barely, and that’s it. They don’t currently show the potential to grow much beyond what they’ve already displayed, but they do have some sort of value to the Codex, and meet basic expectations

  • Initiates are trial members of the Codex. They are either new recruits who need to prove themselves and show significant improvement or value to the Codex, or existing members who are essentially on Academic probatio
