Jack Trade

Jack Trade (a.k.a. The Man the Lusions Fear)

You know, I loved Lumiere. The city was gorgeous, the food blew me away, and the people were so superficially nice. It had one fatal flaw though: they killed my brother.
-Jack Trade
While the rest of the world was experiencing the early 1900s, Amity was dealing with a deceptive lunatic. He described himself as a "Jack of All Trades"; name a field of study and he'd know most everything about the matter. Jack was a Lusion, so he was known for being anywhere from oddly random to incredibly dangerous at times. Why was he such a spectacle, you may ask? Well, read and find out why Jack's fate lay at the blade of an executor in the middle of a town square.

Jack of All Trades

Not to be confused with Jack Trade from The Twins of Fairwyll, though Jack took the alias because of the myth. He came from a long lineage of The Lusions but his parents were exiled after committing truly heinous crimes, even by Lusion standards. His childhood is known to be traumatic based on diaries and second-hand accounts of his neighbors. While his mother abandoned the family to start a new life and his father was abusive, he was the breadwinner for himself and his four other siblings. He lived in the slums of Les Artistes, meaning that his childhood was terrible but full of creativity. But when all of his family died except for his youngest brother, Dobry, in a terrible bout of the Arbingtonvirus when he had just turned eighteen, Jack packed his bags and ran away with Dobry to Lumiere, the city of lights.   With his exceptional woodworking, Jack built a modest cottage for himself and his brother. In Lumiere, Jack acquired his first set of skills and a new job as an electrician (a very valued job in Lumiere). He was among people who yearned to learn, so he settled in quite well. At the time, Jack was merely a young lad who wanted the best for himself and his brother. He managed to balance work and working on his hobbies, but note that he would never sacrifice time alone with his hobbies and brother for laboring away as an electrician. Time would only tell what kind of man he would turn out in the end.   Lumiere was a poor village that had strict rules and even harsher law enforcement. Jack and Dobry lived in poverty with little money to spend and even less food to eat. Jack urged Dobry to practice and open a shop for exotic magic and make money off of it, knowing full well that it was illegal to do so. He was desperate at that point. Dobry complied nonetheless. After months of learning some easy sorcery, Dobry became a seller.   Dobry's death sentence came a day after he started selling.

But Master of None

The death of his final family member sent Jack into a mad spiral. Now in his mid-twenties, he spent many nights drinking himself to sleep. His job performance plummeted and he lashed out at the few people who were ashamed enough to be his friend.   Jack spent his days alone in his empty two-bedroom cottage. When he was sober, he researched as much as he could about the Lusions and his hidden lineage from the journal entries of his parents. At last, when he couldn't pay the village's taxes, he packed his bags for the second time and ran off to the History District. There, he entered the mountains to the Lusion colony.   Jack proved himself as a true Lusion, hiding the fact that he was the son of two terrible people. He was amazed at the plans that the Lusions had for Amity's downfall. He eagerly wanted to be a part of their mission, so he found himself a mentor that would teach him centuries-old Lusion dark arts.

Though Oftentimes Better than Master of One

Jack quickly got the hang of the Lusion dark arts. In fact, his mentor was surprised at how rapidly he was increasing in power. It wasn't long before Jack knew he could easily overpower his mentor. So, one day, as they were sparring in a dungeon deep in the History District's mountains, he accidentally snapped the neck of his unassuming mentor. When instead of feeling guilt, he felt power at the sight of the life draining from a person's eyes, he knew what he must do. He must avenge the lives of his siblings and every person who had ever wronged the Lusions.   He started with his mother, who left him at a young age to fend for himself. He had hated her ever since he saw her leave. With the dark arts he knew, he tracked her down in a wealthy mansion in the Science District. Seeing her in such a blissful home made his blood boil. It wasn't long for her blood to stain the neat white tiles of her living room.   He then went on to grin while flaying the neighbors of his childhood home, for seeing him and his siblings suffer without doing a thing about it. Then the landlord, then the family of a Sagewoman, until he finally circled back to Lumiere.   He hated that village. He hated how it was so twisted on the inside yet so dazzlingly pretty on the outside. He hated how him and his brother suffered while they lived there.   He wished it to burn, and it did. Its stupid homes and floating candles and wondrous lighting systems aflame, he laughed in the town square. Its intricate cobblestone burned into his feet, but he didn't care. He collapsed to the ground, and didn't budge until government officials seized him. They gathered the remaining of the citizens and an executor.   His last words were "Jack Trade went insane after his sister died, Jack Trade went mad after his brother died."
