Sirona

The first of all gods of Avalyra, Sirona is the creator of life, and brought about the first gods, her children. The gods Imir, Ethos, Vaelyn, Lumir and Etyx were born from Sirona, and went on to create their own children.

Description

Few records exist of proven manifestations of Sirona, throughout Avalyran history. Most of those that exist speak of her as a middle-aged to elderly looking woman, with long brown hair. Some speak of her avatar as human, others as more elven, though they all mention a maternal affection in her expression and voice.
Those who claim to have been visited by Sirona in dreams and visions rarely mention any kind of humanoid form, instead holding that the goddess' voice echoed through their head, seeming only to come from a soothing warm light suffusing their vision.

History

After Imir crafted the blank slate that became the world of Amion, Sirona turned her creation to mortals, bringing about humans, elves, dwarves and all the other sentient races. She oversaw each of her children's efforts in creating the world, but did not interfere, even with Etyx, the god seen as Sirona's greatest mistake. This compassion, while seen as foolish by some, has become known as her defining trait.

Relationships

While devotees of Sirona believe she created all the sentient races living in Amion, there are some orders and individuals who hold differing beliefs. The most commonly debated origin is that of dwarves, with many holding that they were created along with the mountains by Gunir. Some wood elves believe their race was created by Imir, not by Sirona herself, while many drow hold they are descendents of Etyx. Some religious sects in Avalyra claim that orcs were created by Vyrra as a tide of destruction, though the overwhelming majority decry this thought as prejudice, particularly with King Owyne Gaillard's pushes towards acceptance.

Worshippers

While she is worshipped across Avalyra, the greatest Temple of Sirona lies in the capital, Dawnshield. The majority of her followers are human, by virtue of them being the most populous race in Avalyra, though she has worshippers of all other races in the kingdom. Even those that hold other gods in the highest regards tend to have healthy respect for the Ancient Mother, particularly as part of new year celebrations.
