Brancheley Stronghold

Founded in year 4 by General Gerhard Brancheley as a bastion against the orcs of the Northern Reaches, the fortress lies between The Silver Peaks and The Iron Spine , spanning a wide mountain pass, the only viable route between the two dense ranges. The solid stone walls of Brancheley bar the way, forcing any travellers or invaders to route through the city within. These walls, and the elite defenders stationed within, have ensured no attacks from the Reaches have breached into the Kingdom beyond.

Demographics

While a large portion of the city is made up of humans, there are a large number of elves making the fortress their home. Many dwarves also live and work in the city, with a large mine outside the walls providing work for a lot of them. Unlike most towns in Avalyra, Brancheley has a population of orcs and half-orcs, with the people of the city much more accepting of them than the kingdom at large.

Government

Commander Avila Rosemond heads the garrison at Brancheley, and acts as the city's mayor. A cold half-elf with little patience, her guards rule with an iron fist, with any crimes being swiftly punished. Often, Rosemond herself acts as judge and even executioner.

Guilds and Factions

A large temple devoted to the god Ethos is the largest non-military building in the city. It is widely renowned for training the finest paladins in Amion, including most notably Irina Gylcrest.
