Grimogall Varangr

Grimogall Varangr (a.k.a. Grim)

Grimogall was conceived from love, understanding, and kindness, his mother, Sassa Varangr; and goodwill, bravery, and devotion, his father and namesake, Grimogall.   Sassa was a human living in a village in the The Vaarak Winterlands. Grimogall was an orc that had been on the run with some of his surviving tribe, after being wrongully run out of his forest home by an unknown evil force. Grimogall and a handful of his tribe were able to reach Sassa's villiage and were able to take refuge there.   Sassa tended to Grimogall's injuries that he had sustained in the attack against his tribe and both would eventually fall for each other. They married and Sassa eventually became pregnant with Grim. It was picturesque, for a while. The evil force that had attacked Grimogall's tribe found him in the forest outside the village.   Grimogall's past caught up with. The evil force that had shattered his tribe found him outside of Sassa's village traveling alone in the woods. He led them away from the village and his pregnant wife. His pursuit led him to team up with a traveling Tiefling Paladin and together they fought off the evil force, but it came at a cost. Grimogall suffered a grave injury and died before the paladin was able to heal him.   The paladin buried the brave orc beneath stones and traveled to a nearby village to learn more about the orc who had died. It did not take long in the small village for Sassa to hear news of her husband's death. She begged the Paladin to show her where he was buried. He led her and several other villagers to where Grimogall's body was placed. They returned the body to the village and gave him a proper burial.   Grim was born some months later and was told of his father's bravery in leading the evil force away from the village and the Paladin recounted the story of him fighting bravely before succumbing to his mortal wounds. Thus Grim's hatred for injustice slowly grew and grew. He could not understand why such evil existed in teh world. He promised his mother that when he grew up he would be brave and strong like his father and always fight for justice.   When Grim came of age, he became a sailor and a navigator. His crew sailed the seas for trade and fishing. Violence followed him as did misfortune. One day his ship was attacked by pirates and Grim was the only survivor. The ship was destroyed and as it burned Grim found himself floating on a piece of the ship, the Vegvisir a lucky charm for sailors to find their way. He made his way to a small island after floating for some time.   On the istland Grim found a tribe of fishing people who worshipped the god Assuran, which Grim would later learn to be the same mainland god, Hoar the Doombringiner. Hoar, or Assuran as grim likes to refer to him as, is the God of Vengeance. This suited Grim just fine, he decided then and there, to begin his journey of an oath of vengeance and faith to Assuran. He had vengeance in mind and the pirates who killed his friends and those that killed his father and destroyed his father's tribe would know his vengeance before he died.   Eventually, Grim escaped the island on a passing fishing boat and found his way to a temple of Hoar on the mainland. He studied in the way of becoming a holy knight of vengeance sot hat he could avenge the crew of his ship and all other injustices of the world. Grim then set out on another ship to return to the island he was shipwrecked on to meditate on what to do to further his goals. He received an answer, off the east coast of the mainland. This is where he would start his journey of vengeance. This is also where he starts his journey with his new found group of adventuring friends.
