Elder Dice Item in Amanor | World Anvil

Elder Dice

The Elder Dice are a magical set of cubic dice created by the goddess Tymora. There are three dice in the set: one made from heartwood, one from the golden metal known as skystone, and one from the translucent material called Sidhe glass. Each die is six-sided but has a different set of faces featuring various kinds of symbols.   The dice can be used as an arcane focus, but also as a mundane set of dice – although there are no established games for the dice, they can be used to play whatever games you might design for them. However, the most notable usage for the dice is to call upon the favor of Tymora as described below.

Rolling the dice

As an action, you can roll the dice and use their special ability to produce random magical effects. After showing their results for a few seconds, the dice will teleport to your pocket. If you cannot find a suitable tabletop in the heat of combat, you can just throw the dice from your hand into the air, and they will determine a result after a few seconds and then teleport to your pocket. Each symbol on the faces of the dice has a specific magical effect associated with it. Whatever results the dice show will cause their effects immediately. All effects occur at the same time.   After using this special ability, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.   The results produced by the symbols on the dice are as follows:
Elemental and Skull Icons. Magical motes appear to float around you, and whenever you hit with an attack, one of these orbs is expended to inflict 1d6 damage to the target. The number of these motes is equal to the total number of fire, frost, thunder and skull icons in the roll. The damage type of all these motes is that of the most numerous icon: corresponding elemental damage for elemental icons and force damage for skull icons. In case of a tie: fire beats frost, which beats lightning, which beats skulls.
Scroll. Randomly determine one of your spell slots. If a spell is prepared, cast it immediately. If no spell is prepared, determine a spontaneous spell of the appropriate level to cast from spells you know. If you have no spell slots, cast a random cantrip you know. Spell targets are random but in your favor.
Broken Mirror. You lose 1 luck point. Additionally, all spells from Scroll icons are cast at random targets in your enemies’ favor.
Clover. You gain 1 luck point for each Clover.
Goddess. You gain 1 luck point. Additionally, if you rolled the Broken Mirror, you ignore its effect. Lastly, the Elder Dice can be used again to perform this ability (without having to rest).
