Personal history
Viking Raider
Mairead was born in a small village in The Lost Peninsula before joining a Viking crew raiding along the Ar Mor Marv. After several successful raids, her village received word of great riches to the South, where the Viking warlord Hastings Fireforged was seeking Northern allies to plunder the wealthy Silvercoast. Mairead was part of a small fleet that sailed to take up Hasting's offer. Sailing around the Armorican Peninsula, the fleet was pushed by heavy winds into Cadfan's Tempest, with most ships being smashed against the rocks near Barrad-Faout. A small group of survivors drifted into Douarnenez Bay. Only 6 of the nearly 200 who had set out from the Lost Peninsula were left alive by the time they were discovered by the Marie-Morgane, led by Yannic Corentin. The survivors, including Mairead, heard the call of The Oceansong and were transformed into Marie-Morgane themselves.Journey to Ubar
Mairead served as a member of Yannic Corentin's command for many years, earning the respect of her sisters for her daring battles against The Finfolk in the Lower Wards and the Seawall. One day, Mairead was acting as the Chorus for a young Marie-Morgane attempting her first Courtship, only to discover that the object of the girl's affections was a slaver luring her into a trap. Mairead sprung into action, freeing the girl, but was captured herself. Despite the best efforts of the Marie-Morgane, the slaver windship proved adept at outmaneuvering them, and Mairead was taken to the Slave markets of Slaver's Coast, near the Emirate of Nekor, where she was sold to another slaver, who brought her to Iram of the Pillars as a gift for the Caliph. The Caliph gifted her to the spice merchant Isra, who brought her to his oasis estate near the Brass City.Mairead and Isra
Isra was a wealthy merchant on the rise, and was honored by the gift of the beautiful mermaid. Knowing that others like her had fared poorly in the dry desert, he declared he would be the first to succeed in keeping one. To this end, he purchased an oasis near the Brass City, and constructed a great pleasure palace of marble, silver and lapis lazuli, drawing on the powers of the Djinn to construct a fabulous sanctuary of pools, tanks and aqueducts. Mairead, with her tail like stained glass, would be the centerpiece of his palace of wonders. Originally viewing Mairead as a symbol of his wealth and prestige, Isra spent more and more time at the water's edge, getting to know her, listening to her stories and adventures. She proved a wonderful companion and a trusted advisor, and gradually, he fell in love with her. But Mairead was not content or willing to be a toy for the whims of the merchant, no matter how sincere his love was becoming. Mairead worked with the other women of Isra's harem, recruiting allies to her cause. She gradually took over the administration of the household, replacing servants and guards with those loyal to her. She would run the household and business when Isra was away. And then, with everything in place, she enacted her plan. Mairead had never mentioned she was a similherez, nor that she knew the secrets of the Oceansong. After convincing Isra to dismiss the staff for the night, she welcomed him to her pool. Alone in their palace, she sung her song, transforming her "master" into a mermaid like herself. Initially in shock, Isra quickly adapted to her new life with her "mistress", eagerly devoting herself to their new situation. When the staff returned, Mairead explained that the master had gone on a long voyage, but had brought the new mermaid into their home as a companion for her. Over the years, Mairead transformed much of the harem and some of the staff, establishing a Marie-Morgane presence in the City of Brass, using Isra's powerful trade network to orchestrate the freeing of other slaves, captives and errant drifters.Sexuality
Mairead is a lesbian, primarily in a romantic relationship with her wife Isra, but also part of a larger polycule of other former harem girls.
