Dreamdust is a powerful hallucinogenic narcotic that produces intense, lurid dreams, transporting the user's conciousness to a pocket of the Deep Faewylde.

Ingestion Methods

Dreamdust can be inhaled in its natural form, or ingested directly (Liquid Dream) or diluted in wine (dreamwine).

Dreamdust

Dreamdust is unrefined dreampollen, a pinkish powder flecked with little shimmers of vibrant colours within. The weakest of the varieties, but the most commonly available. Dreamdust is commonly contained within small pouches of white cloth, holding about 2 grams of the substance. When burst, the dust will spread in a small cloud, approx .30 Cm in diameter. This produces a dissociative effect, causing unconciousness filled with mild, but vivid, dreams.

Dreamwine

A diluted mixture of dreamdust, honey and wine to produce euphoric, vivid dreams when consumed. Dreamwine is typically golden in colour, and glows softly. The Vineywards of House de Chinon are known for their Dreamwine, considered the best in Northern Kornôgel. Dreamwine does not produce immediate effects like Dreamdust or Liquid Dream, but does cause drowziness. The dreams experienced with dreamwine are more vivid and lucid than those of Dreamdust.

Liquid Dream

The most potent of the ingestion methods, Liquid Dream is a heavily concentrated syrup of dreamdust, typically sold in small diamond-shaped crystal vials and containing a deep pink liquid. A dram of liquid dream will produce incredibly vibrant and lucid dreaming experiences, transporting the user's conciousness to a pocket of the Faewylde in a dreamlike state.

Dark Dreamdust

At no point during its harvest and production can the plant or its pollen be touched by cold iron. This well render the concoction poisonous, regardless of the ingestor's fae blood. Iron-poisoned Dreamdust is readily noticable, turning from its natural pink form to a dull black, lacking the coloured specks found in its normal state. This colouring is equally noticeable in liquid form, and does not glow in dreamwine. Corrupted dreamdust is a risky, but effective method of poisoning, and can be hidden in darker wines, triggering horrific audio-visual hallucinations, panic and eventual cardiac arrest.
Iron touching already produced dreamdust will not have this effect, but will greatly negate its effects, or remove them entirely.

Addiction and Overdose

An overdose of Dreamdust (most commonly Liquid Dream) will plunge the user into a deep coma, their projection separated from their body deep in the Faewylde. This can sometimes be treated with an alchemical mixture of caffeine, sulphur and quicksilver, but deep trances will require an exertion of intent and will from the user.
Use of Dreamdust in all forms can lead to addiction. Withdrawal symptoms, which can range in severity, include depression, malaise, and in extreme cases, schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder. Continued use by a Bediz can lead to them becoming Boermerzh or even Milliget, although this latter requires significant, dangerous amounts of use.
Time Maddenned Fae and Bediz who have lived long periods in the Faewylde before returning to Bedouar are especially susceptible to addiction and are considered high-risk for overdose.

Significance

Dreamdust is a popular drug across Bedouar with a wide range of users, both Bediz and Fae. It is popular among the noble classes, academics and arkanists, seeking new experiences and an expansion of consciousness.
Spies, thieves and assassins often make use of dreamdust as a quick method of non-lethal incapacitation.

Dreamdust is readily available in Alvez, most commonly in the Goblin Markets that pop up in semi-regular intervals across the world. It is most commonly found in urban environments, but traveling merchants, such as the Pilhaouer often sell it along their routes in less-populated areas.
