Bank-Tossel / Bench Safe

Utility

Bank-Tossels are box-like benches that conceal reinforced cabinets within their interior, accessed via front panels or a lifted seat. These are often sealed against intruders and the elements, both mechanically and magically, making them ideal to store valuables and important items, most commonly silver, pewter and reserve grains.   The security and convenience of the Bank-Tossel has made it ideal for both remote houses deep in the Ar Goat and on ships and windships, which has spread its use beyond Letha's borders. Occasionally, the Bank-Tossel is built into the Gwele-Kloz, serving as the base of the furniture, although this is not the traditional design.

Manufacturing

Bank-Tossels are typically crafted by Bediz or Teuz woodcarvers by hand, utilizing different metals and woods to create more complex designs, depending on availability.

Social Impact

The Bank-Tossel is considered a staple of Lethan furniture, along with the Gwele-kloz, found across the regional and economic spectrum. The Bank-Tossel, like the Gwele-kloz, serve as a showing of prosperity for the household in addition to its practical usage, often passed down as a family heirloom or dowry. They are often decorated or finely crafted to reflect this importance. Bank-Tossels are most often found in the homes of Bediz or Teuz, but have been adopted by other peoples.
Access & Availability
The technology behind the Bank-Tossel is common, and its use is widespread, especially on the Armorican Peninsula and its immediate surroundings. More complex or highly decorated variations are more unique and exceptional, while simple versions are more widespread.
Complexity
Some Bank-Tossel use a variation of Silverkey techniques to take advantage of Faerie space, allowing for slightly more storage than the exterior dimensions would seem to allow. This aspect is very common in Teuz made Bank-Tossels, although less commonly to a dramatic degree.
