The Heartlands

Humanity's Cradle

The tall peaks of this mountain range tower high above the deep rich valleys of Humanity's Cradle. Golden grasses blow as Everfall Oaks grow slowly, a constant trickle of leaves falling. The winds blowing through these valleys from the south carry with them a faint smell of salt and the sea. Mellow rivers flow and provide rich water to the small cities that have weather eons of time and will weather eons more. This is the Heartlands, where they say the Heart and Soul of humanity lies.

Geography

This smaller bowl like mountain range sits on the southern end of Elltha, bordering with the Golden Coast and the Greenbough Timberlands . The mountain range surrounds the deep cut wide valleys that prove to be the home for Humanity. The valleys consist primarily of rolling foot hills and wide grass lands, with deep rivers flowing through them from the snow capped peaks of the mountains. Sparse Everfall Oak forests fill some of this space, providing game preserves and timber to the humans residing near them. Very few lakes build up in this region, with most flowing south straight toward the near by coast through the Golden Spine, the name for the southern edge of the mountain range.

Fauna & Flora

The majority of the trees are the Everfall Oak. The grass is a wide variety of prairie grass that stretches towards the sky. The majority of animal life is the normal life to most worlds.

Natural Resources

The Heartlands contain such a variety of resources that they are known to be able to have supported humanity many times through out history. The northern range, the Iron Divide, contains many practical resources such as iron, copper, coal and tin. While the southern edge, the Golden Spine, containing wealth many covet, with Gold, Platinum and Silver being buried within the mountains. Between the two lies the rolling foot hills and grasslands used to raise cattle, and small fresh rivers flowing from the snow melt on some of the higher mountains. The rivers provide the irrigation needed to raise the crops used to feed the people. Near rivers one can often find the Everfall Oak trees used for building, parchment making, and warming the humans during the chilled winters. Hardy stone is quarried from the broken down mountains in the valleys. All of these resources are the reasons these lands are often seen to be the reason for humanities continued existence.
