Goblinoids ((Gahb-lin-oy'ds))
The Goblinoid race is an interesting one. They are clever, agile, and disciplined; all traits one might associate with the Vel. Yet their appearance is often less than graceful. Their skin tones vary between browns, grays, yellows, and greens. Their ears are pointed like a Vels but their features are in various ways twisted, crooked, or otherwise not quite right. Goblinoid Culture has two variations- one more imperial, and one more tribalistic. One with more structure and honor, and one of a more traditional ‘goblin-like’ mentality.
Dress
On the whole, Gildamerian Goblins are usually well dressed, well kept, and well spoken, which may catch some off guard based on their appearance and the rumors about them as underhanded scavengers of the night. Then there are the Tribal or Feral Goblinoids who appear and act more stereotypical for their race, however. The appearance of Goblinoids is easily the most varied of all races in Alterra. They can look like classical coblins, hobgoblins, orcs, some manner of trolls, and anything in between. At the end of the day, Goblinoids are twisted Vel no matter their appearance.Demeanor
The two types of Goblinoids are Gildamerian and Tribal (sometimes referred to as Feral). Gildamerian Goblinoids hail from the Forlorn Mire, and are often well dressed, educated, and follow a code of honor- even if it’s a personal one. Tribal Goblinoids hail from either Nightfen or Serpentbog Pass- these sort are more like nomadic, typical goblins from folklore and look out for themselves and their own above all others more often than not. This doesn’t mean a Tribal Goblinoid can’t form relationships with other Races, just that it is rarer.Families and Nobility
Gildamerian Goblinoids have a rigid nobility within their primary kingdom of Gildamere, consisting of elected positions of power including an Emperor. Family is often very important to a Gildamerian Goblinoid, as is loyalty to their kingdom and Emperor. Tribal Goblinoids have little to no nobility structure outside of perhaps an elder or leader for their unit. They also consider ‘family’ as anyone they welcome into their unit and usually are fiercely loyal to those people.Goblinoid Notable Locations
Depending on which type of Goblinoid you portray, the place you hail from or locations of importance to you will vary. Gildmerian Goblinoids hail from either the kingdom of Gildamere or the other villages outside of it still within the Forlorn Mire, which are:- Ikthalin
- Rathzir
- Darkmarsh
- Gazdor
- Nelthex
- Sahyde
- Blackmoor

Playing a Goblinoid
- All Goblinoids must wear ear prosthetics and have all exposed skin colored, be it with makeup or a morphsuit at the least. A mask is allowed for the face- as are additional facial prosthetics. All goblinoid costume choices must be approved by the Director prior to coming into game.
- The current Emperor of Gildamere is Vezikim Blackgate. He gained his surname and great renown for overseeing and helping defend the construction of the Black Gate, which borders the Forlorn Mire and the Fallowood. He has held this position for the last 8 years.
- There are multiple families holding various levels of nobility within Gildamere; too many to list out in their entirety. A player may never start as a member of any form of nobility regardless of race.
- Both Gildamerian and Tribal Goblinoids handle names in the same way, initially. A Goblinoid is given a name at birth, but only carry a surname if their parent or parents have one- to which surnames are important badges of merit in at least Gildamerian Goblinoid society.
- Goblinoid names tend to be similar to their Gib language- shorter names with harsh sounds. Some examples include Gilgok, Hegi, Nezz, Locke, and Kabu.
- Surnames are more used by Gildamerian Goblinoids than Tribal. Generally a Surname for a Goblinoid is granted, sort of like a title, for some form of accomplishment or service by someone with the authority to do so. A surname can be passed down to offspring, though some families choose against this, preferring their children earn a Surname of their own- should they prove worthy. Some examples of Goblinoid surnames include Eckbolt, Gloomshadow, Krelvar, and Iznkrest. Tribal Goblinoids do not generally utilize or care as much about Surnames.
- Gildamerian Goblinoids often dress in a manner that would rival the Aeovel, though there are of course exceptions; especially when away from Gildamere and/or on a mission of any kind requiring or befitting less well kept attire. The difference being while Aeovel consider armor appropriate for combat and less for the debate chamber, a Goblinoid from Gildamere sees debate as a form of war and dresses the same for both. Tribal Goblinoids, on the other hand, will cobble together whatever gear both suits them or is available. They care less about keeping up appearances or cutting a distinguished form- and more about what will serve them best at home, on the road, or when performing their tasks... be those underhanded or otherwise.
- The way a Goblinoids acts towards the other races of Alterra can vary, though generally they treat non-Goblinoids with weary distrust as a baseline. Most of the other races believe all Goblinoids to be lying, deceptive, selfish, or even malicious, and regard them as such. To this end, many Goblinoids have developed a thick skin towards such attitudes and care little for their perception from others. Still, there have been Goblinoids who have strived to prove themselves honorable, trustworthy, and benevolent to as many as they can- becoming a symbol of whats possible but still unable to change the perception of the masses.
- Given the going belief that Goblinoids are "Void-Touched Vel", and living mostly in mires, bogs, and fens; the Goblinoid race has gained some passive resistance- in partocular to poison. While for many races getting poisoned can be a death sentence- for Goblinoids it poses only a minor inconvenience. Toxins that would last days, weeks, or even months affect a goblinoid for only minutes- and are half as effective at that.
- Gildamerian Goblinoids (all Goblinoids living within the Forlorn Mire) are expected to perform two years of civil service within the Gildamerian Military upon turning 18. Failing to report for this term is a high offense within Gildamere, and depending on the factors of which can include penalties all the way up to execution. Some Goblinoids stay in the Gildamerian army beyond their 2 years of required service- while others leave as soon as they are able. This period of civil service offers a great many opportunities for even the poorest Goblinoid within the mire, and helps build strong patriotism to Gildamere and it's Emperor.
- All Goblinoids mature around age 18, and live to be between 120-150 years of age.
