Scope
The motivation behind building Alternia
Andrew Hussie made Alternia waaaayyy too confusing, and I see the potential he laid down in the beginning but gave up on when people were confused by his story. I'm not giving up on Alternia, I will make it a proper world. Also I want to make sense for my fan-session/fantrolls.
The goal of the project
I hope to get a rich, interesting world, the one I saw in Hussie's ideas, for my Trolls and hopefully for others who are interested in Homestuck.
Alternia's Unique Selling point
I'm not sure. I suppose an alien world in another universe, far removed from ours, yet so similar, is interesting to me. I want to further explore the similarities and the differences, see what this world can offer to someone willing to try giving it a chance.
Theme
Genre
This world is sci-fi. There is technology we don't have, and technology we do, but it's different and organic.
Reader Experience
This world is dangerous, terrifying. Everything is and can be a danger, things are much more violent, death much more frequent. Yet there is unrest. The inhabitants of Alternia do not want to take this anymore. They never did. There could be a revolution on the rise, inspired by the past ones. They just need the right conditions.
Reader Tone
The world is very dark. It is very difficult to live there, especially as a lowblood. Highbloods have it a bit comfier, but are not exempt from the horrors that can occur. Horrible things happen to everyone, can happen to everyone.
Recurring Themes
1. The organic, bug-like technology everywhere
2. Anger and frustration at the normalized violence and repression
3. The purple night sky, broken apart by rays of red sunlight, the heat suffocating the air.
Character Agency
I'm not sure if I want to tell the story of a revolution. Alternia is canonically doomed, no matter what, the reckoning will commence. Yet I won't acknowledge the game, I want to take this world further, so SGrub and everything else will be irrelevant. I will see where this goes, but I do think there's a great chance that change can and will happen.
Focus
Economic strength: Money has no value on Alternia, yet currency does exist, most likely in overabundance, which makes it worthless. Alternia is more focused on resources and military power than capital gain.
Gender relations: Alternia is a matriarchy, the leading caste being purely female. Yet there is not much difference between male and female, transition being very possible, yet trans Trolls are seen as a curiosity. Non-binary Trolls also exist, but are very few. Names do not fit into a binary, making all names unisex, since transitioned Trolls keep their name given by their lusus.
Sexual Orientation Relations: Trolls have four types of romance. They can be with anyone in these quadrants, but having more than one Troll in a quadrant is looked down upon. The quadrants are red - matespritship, pale - moiraillegiance, ashen - auspistice, black - kismesistude. The quadrants are presented by a heart, a diamond, a club and a spade.
Rule of Law/Military: The role of purple- and violetbloods need to be further defined. Purples seem to be somewhat like shepards, keeping the landdwellers in check and making sure that Trolls stay obedient, or will be ended violently. Violets seem to be commanders, having the second-highest decision power, interfering when the empress can't.
Drama
Trolls, inspired by stories of their ancestors and growing unrest, started voicing their opinions about the empire - most of them negative. Those loyal to it want to supress them, but struggle with the increasing numbers of rebels.
The complicated nature of the quadrants, and emotions being hard to define, Trolls notice the one partner per quadrant rule is getting very opressive. They start to experiment, throwing the word of the empire to the wind.
The seperation of Trolls through ascension and strict rules has soured the mood. Friendships and relationships are thrown aside for the empire's plans of conquering every world it comes across. This leaves Trolls feeling lonely and outcast, especially negatively towards the empire.
Constant violence and death is normal for Trolls, but the lower castes are getting tired of being stepped on. Their numbers are strong, and their conviction stronger. There are demands for change bubbling up. Highbloods might be stepped on in the process.
Legislacerators have always condemed innocent Trolls along with guilty ones. That is how trials have worked since the enforcement of laws. Some teals have started to become weary of this prospect, planning to find away to help innocent Trolls to go free, and not die at the hand of the showmaster or His Honorable Tyranny.
