After the fall of the Amalorian Empire, magical researchers who had practiced their craft freely were hunter down by angry mobs spurred by anti-magic sentiment. A number of them, led by the first Archmage, Imarion the Silver-Scaled, settled in a relatively secluded Amalorian fortress, Valnasteron, in the foothills of the Sinseria Range. They wrote themselves a set of Statutes and opened their doors to anyone who showed magical talent and close their doors to anyone who tried to harm them.

The United Kingdom collapsed in between 621BU and 559BU. In 621BU, the brothers Kings Arnavar and Rastinor split the kingdom in a civil war which ended in a stalemate with North Bairek ruled by Arnavar and South Bairek ruled by Rastinor. Then in 603BU, the Duchy of Tulu, ruled by a cousin of the King of South Bairek, who had married a princess of North Bairek declared his Duchy independent. Most significantly, in 559BU, the largest and wealthiest city in the region, Bairok (the namesake of the two kingdoms), declared itself an independent 'Free City' with the military power to back this claim.

Bi'tsng'ot was thrown into a brief civil war when the Polyarchist majority in the largest city of Bi'tsng'ot Delta overthrew the Duke of the city and declared themselves an independent city-kingdom. Initially, it seemed clear that the religious fanatics would not last long as the army of the large kingdom of Bi'tsng'ot turned against them but the tides turned when the Elders of Vekirai declared support for the fledgling city state (Vekirai had long seen Bi'tsng'ot as a rival). Begrudgingly, the Bi'tsng'ot kingdom signed a treaty recognising the independent Delta.
The Great Plague of 329BU decimated the population of North-East M'dia. It produced weeping sores on its victims which leaked infectious plasma and spread by contact or contaminated water.
In 187BU the Kingdom of North Bairek, the Kingdom of South Bairek, the Duchy of Tulu and the Free City of Bairok signed the Supreme Constitution which established a unified legislative and military and made Bairek the largest single nation at the time.
