Saturn

Saturn Snowfeather

Saturn (サトン [Saton]) is the current wielder of Excalibur and the new Light Champion of Altairus. Once a researcher sent to the Grotto of the Young to scavenge the artifacts at the abandoned worship site, Saturn joins Jack Thunder and company on their journey when the team arrives at the grotto in search of the Light Fragment. Reluctantly, he joins them on their journey.

Ultimately, he is the one who dislodges Excalibur from a stone deep in the Grotto of the Young's ancient worship caverns. Against all odds, this valkryie helps cleanse the former Light Champion Puer Aeternus of the wendigoes infesting their body, becoming the new Champion of Light.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Saturn is generally in good physical condition. However, his left wing is crooked due to an accident involving a trap inside one of the temples he explored. The humerus bone broke and healed incorrectly. After some time, it withered due to lack of use. This makes flying more or less impossible for him.

Special abilities

Saturn, being a valkryie, has a particular affinity for Light magic.

This is what allows him to extract Excalibur from its stone and become its new wielder.

Apparel & Accessories

Saturn wears a pair of goggles that act as eye guards for when he is traveling in bad weather. He also carries a backpack full of supplies and wears an assortment of potion vials on his belt. He also wears a pair of noise-cancelling headphones to block out background noise while he is working.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Saturn was born in the Greyfeather Village to the west of the Blade Bee Badlands. He was somewhat of an outcast, being born from the union of a valkyrie mother and a tengu father. When The War of the Wendigoes began, his family fled the island the village rested on, boarding on a boat with its course set for the Rosy Princessdom. Rogue winds blew the ship off course, and Saturn's family landed in the Foreboding Forest instead.

Saturn spent his formative years in the Harpy Temple within the forest, learning more about the world. When he was twelve years old, he joined the League of Exploration chapter situated in the temple. That same year, he began traveling around the world on expeditions to recover rare artifacts and explore new lands.

Education

Most of Saturn's education came from the Harpy Temple. In addition to his own studies, he was tutored by the senior harpy explorers in the temple.

Accomplishments & Achievements

At the tender age of 14, Saturn has already made successful expeditions to the Nekomata Islands, the Harmony Sands Desert, and even the Typhonic Plains. His most recent expedition to the Forest of the Young is where he bumped into Jack Thunder and joined the young champions.

Failures & Embarrassments

Particularly when he was younger, he was not always as careful as he should have been on expeditions. He has triggered more than a trap or two when exploring abandoned sites. One such trap ended up crippling one of his wings, hindering his ability to fly.

Mental Trauma

Certainly, being a refugee at such a young age was not easy on Saturn. Part of the reason he joined the League of Exploration was to get away from his new home in the Harpy Temple, which never quite felt like home to him.

Intellectual Characteristics

Saturn has a vast knowledge of Altairian history and magical artifacts at his disposal, which he will cheerfully rattle off to anyone who will listen. Despite being very smart, he has a short attention span and doesn't know how to use most of the magic that he recovers.

Morality & Philosophy

Being in the League of Exploration, Saturn is not very squeamish about pillaging abandoned sites for treasures. However, he is not as nonchalant about it as some of the League's other members, some of which will go as far as to raid still-inhabited areas for items.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Saturn came to the Forest of the Young with the intention of searching the Grotto of the Young for treasure.

After he expunges the wendigoes from Puer Aeternus's body, he joins Jack Thunder on his quest to defeat The Heart of Darkness.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Saturn is quite good at scavenging artifacts and assessing their value. This is to be expected given his connections with the League of Exploration. He has also gotten better at dodging traps over the years, though he is not perfect at it.

Unfortunately, Saturn is not so experienced when it comes to wielding magic. He does not know how to use most of the artifacts he digs up, and when he has to use magic in battle, he is usually completely clueless.

Show spoiler
It is by sheer luck that he figures out how to use Excalibur when he first extracts it from the stone during a wendigo attack.

Likes & Dislikes

Saturn will talk your ear off about his travels if you let him. This can be a problem when you get him started and you are in a situation where you need him to be quiet.

Conversely, Saturn has a slight fear of traps ever since his wing was broken. He

is a lot more careful around them than he used to be.

Virtues & Personality perks

Saturn is quite kind and friendly, and he is more than happy to help anyone who comes his way. He is also very open-minded and accepting of others' cultures, having seen quite a few of them himself in his scant years.

Vices & Personality flaws

Unfortunately, Saturn does not always know when to stop talking. He sometimes makes life more difficult for himself and others because he refuses to quiet down when he should, or because he said something foolish.

Personality Quirks

Saturn has a rather short attention. He is particularly attracted to things that shine and sparkle.

Social

Family Ties

Unlike many of the other young champions, both of Saturn's parents are alive and well. However, he doesn't see them for stretches at a time because they stay back in the Foreboding Forest while he is off adventuring.

Social Aptitude

Saturn is very talkative and social. He often gets lonely on his travels and will try to befriend anyone he comes across.

Mannerisms

When Saturn gets really excited about something he is talking about, his wings flap frantically.

Speech

Saturn has a loud and raspy voice that sometimes sounds like a bird chirping.
