Grimberg

Of all the cities in Altairus, none are so closely associated with the Gremlin race as is Grimberg. Despite its ominous name, Grimberg is known both for being a thriving place of trade and a haven of culture.

Demographics

Grimberg's population consists of many kinds of creatures, but mostly those of the Gremlin disposition. This is not surprising, considering the town's proximity to Mt. Mischief and Mischief Mire. Of those who are not Gremlins, Dark elementals such as Nekomata make up most of their ranks.

Government

Grimberg was once a city-state ruled over by a king, but that system of government has since fallen. The city nowadays has a democratic government, but there is some contention over whether frequent visitors to Grimberg should be allowed to vote in local elections or not.

Industry & Trade

Being located smack in the middle of the Cirkea-Tamora-Domeria supercontinent, Grimberg is a prominent trading hub. It gets most of its wealth from traveling merchants who make stops in town.

History

Grimberg was one of the first permanent settlements created by Gremlins after emerging from Mischief Mire. In the Golden Era, it was a kingdom, ruled over by the House of Grimberg. This system was kept in place for many centuries, even as the Grimbergs were replaced with a new and more oppressive dynasty.

In the beginning of the Silver Era, the new threat of Wendigo attacks put pressure on the current dynasty to keep their people quiet and satisfied. Numerous unwise decisions on their rulers' part threw Grimberg residents into revolution. Eventually, the king was deposed and a more democratic form of government was established. The new regime resembled that of Cyclone City, with minimal restrictions placed on trade.

This, for the most part, has brought the city into its renaissance era. Today, Grimberg is a thriving trading and art town, much like Cyclone City.

Tourism

Grimberg is not only a hub for trade; it also has a thriving art scene. Beings of all sorts coming from in and out of the city each have impressed their own art cultures upon the culture. Grimberg is full of an odd mix of murals, statues, and other forms of expression strewn about the town in a variety of styles.

Architecture

Grimberg's unique art scene has influenced its architecture. While most houses are in the Tudor-esque style adopted in the town's early years, more modern buildings possess a variety of styles. Some buildings even have a more organic quality, with facades built to resemble coral or mushrooms.
