Tantani City Settlement in Grenagem | World Anvil

Tantani City

The largest known city in La Tantani , the creatively named Tantani City is the headquarters of operations for the Empire. It is mostly managed by Tantani descendants, and serves as the main export center. All the Alum and iron mined in the continent is sent here then sent up to Oleo, where it can be processed before it is finally sent up to Grenegam. The city itself is still home to many native Tantani people, some of whom have somewhat resisted Imperial influence through their stubborn ties to their talent for mercantilism.

Demographics

95% Tantani, 5% Grenagese

Government

A provincial governor watches over the city, but mostly focuses on the export of goods, rather than actually ruling over the city.

Defences

The city has walls surrounding it that stand taller than many buildings in Grenegam, sculpted from clay, with passages through from many directions.

Industry & Trade

The city is entirely based around trade. While they do bring in a decent amount of food from farming, most of their food is still gained through trade with the Empire, which continues to provide the people here with food in order to ensure the continuation of exports.

Infrastructure

The city itself is far older than the Empire, and its roads are paved with colored stones, done in fanciful patterns. Sewers run out to O Margrande, and the docks there are the busiest part of the city, which includes a large market.

Assets

The city itself used up whatever natural resources were here long ago, now staying alive due to their easy access to the nearby river and farmland.

History

The city was conquered in Year 13, and marked the beginning of the end of the conquest. The city went down without much of a fight, as it was not a military city, but an economic one. It quickly proved it's importance, and allowed for the Empire to set up shop there, but continued to function as it usually did despite several attempted mandates from the Empire to reform it. These mandates stopped once the Council realized that the city was losing no value to them, so they allowed it to function as it had. The culture here is still vibrant, but it is looked down upon by those running the trade lines to the Empire.

Architecture

The architecture here is entirely based on the clay in the region, the buildings being built in tall cones with open tops, to allow smoke out for when they cook or heat the buildings. Sticks poke out of the sides, which allow climbing up to the top, which is necessary for when rain comes so that coverings can be placed over the hole.

Geography

The geography here is similar to the hottest parts of the Grenagese Peninsula, flat and hot, the seasons alternate between dry and humid, as the tides on the river come and go.
