La Tantani Geographic Location in Grenagem | World Anvil

La Tantani

The land of La Tantani stretches southward from the bottom of the Grenagese peninsula, going down for what is presumed to be forever, neither the Tantani people nor any explorers the Empire sends have reached the bottom. It was conquered in Year 15, after the discovery of a new source of Alum. The mines here go deep, but are not as plentiful as the original mines in the Lousà Mountains nor the Azor Islands LINK. As a result, the Empire is slowing the mining in them, focusing efforts on the Islands instead.

Geography

The northern part of La Tantani is very similar to much of the Grenagese Peninsula, with sparse forests, lots of hilly and mountainous terrain, and a warmer climate. Farther south and inland it flattens out, and the forests fade away into sprawling deserts. A few locations out in the desert were checked for Alum, but few remain, the harsh weathers discouraged expansion inland. The mountains near to the coast is where most of the Alum here was found. the coast itself provides little fertile land, so not much has been dedicated to establishing colonies here besides the places that existed before the conquest.

Fauna & Flora

The flora of the region are much more suited for hot climates than most that exist up near Grenagem City, but they can survive the climate there, and several specimens have been brought back, for studying and some food sources. Fauna consists of a variety of more reptilian species, and some small mammals and avians. Few of these species have been brought back, as they, unlike the fauna, are not suited to the climate in the capital.

Natural Resources

Azor was plentiful near the surface of the mountains here, but as the mines went deeper, the supply thinned. Other materials have been gained, primarily lots of iron, which has been key to building many of the ships and other inventions that are now so widely used by the Empire.
