Markon
The Lost Kingdom of the Dwarves
The Lost Dwarven Kingdom
In ages long forgotten, Bazrag the Dragon god took on incarnate form and almost wiped out creation. The Dwarves remained a thorn in the side of Bazrag, but especially the Dwarves of Markon. Their craftiness and incredible minds for practical devices led to the eventual creation of the Razhot, a transferal device designed with the help of the Dragonkin. Knowing the dangers and the risk of failure, the Dragonkin secretly sealed Markon away to protect them from the ritual. They would sacrifice their entire race to stop the Great Ice Dragon but successfully preserved Markon and the knowledge of the Razhot. Under the mountains, the kingdom of Markon suffered for many years while their greatest minds worked overtime to create sustainable food for their people. It is believed that Moradin himself appeared to the Markonian inventors and showed them the Warm Lights that would enable them to grow food even in the most desolate places of the Kingdom. Lord Vonkar the Bold arose to power in the second generation in the Dark and sought to break the seals that kept them within Markon’s walls. The effort would unintentionally allow the Great Folk Goblins to enter and begin a generations-long war for control of the mountain kingdom.Fate Intervenes
In the year 995 A.Z., the Dwarves would lose the Grand Market to Tujut the Terrifying, who unleashed Gricks into a massive crowd following the Feast of Elders celebration. These creatures dashed through, and as the Guards made a stand against them, a young guardsman named Barik watched in horror as his entire squadron was torn apart in front of his very eyes. His best friend and fellow guardsman Lorkin grabbed him and began running. They reached one of the secret doors that had been sealed for generations, and unlike other times, it opened. Lorkin shoved Barik inside, and the last thing Barik heard were the screams from the other side of the door as a Grick tore his friend limb from limb. One single tendril hit the ground as the door closed, and Barik ran. Blinded by grief, Barik ran until he reached the town of Mortum Eggressi. Although being the only town in the north, they took it in stride, assuming he was just a stowaway aboard the supply ship that came every month. Barik began to drown his sorrows in whatever the tavern had and would mutter about mountains and grand halls. A drunk Dwarf was not an abnormal sight, and this one never really sobered up. He became a staple of the town for months, until four unlikely adventurers walked into the bar and recruited him to their cause. Emily, daughter to John the Blacksmith, had been kidnapped by Goblins. No one knew what to do, and so the adventurers leapt into action. Barik claimed to know a way into the mountains, and being persuaded by Beren Blackfall to help, he dragged himself out of his drunken stupor long enough to draw a map of the route to the mountains. In the year 1001, Markon stands on its own. Allied with the Middoryn Kingdom of Dwarves and having peace treaties with Redmont and Aelerzodye, Vonron remains confident that the future of Markon is bright and hopeful. Although dangers remain, Chief Advisor Regbrek and Queen Tormera have called upon delegates to send a diplomatic envoy to establish potential trade agreements. Several successful treaties were made, but one fateful event occurred when the Redmont Trading Company, the Windcaller Accord, the Arcana Symposium, the Kadir Prosperity Council, and the Downtrodden all arrived to negotiate agreements with Markon.Structure
