Command Cruiser

Command Cruiser

Interstellar Navy hull classification symbol: CC

Typically named for moons in the Interstellar Navy's ship naming conventions, Command cruiser type starships are built for fleet command and control on cruiser hulls. Typically less well-armed than other cruisers, a command cruiser makes up for this with extensive flag facilities and powerful communications and electronic warfare suites.   Command cruisers are usually flagships of large battle groups, with admirals typically opting for the extensive C&C suites of their command cruisers over the potential glory but massive exposure to danger of the decks of a fleet cruiser or capital ship.   Some navies refer to these vessels as Flag Cruisers, because they are ships designed to carry a flag officer and their staff, rather than Command Cruisers. Flag cruiser or Command cruiser, the function is the same: A less-armed cruiser designed to coordinate other starships in pitched battle.

Titan

-class   First commissioned in 308, the Titan-class starship is the Alliance's only currently operational class of command cruiser. Built on a Team IV Shipyards Taurus-class heavy cruiser hull, Titan is nearly 8% longer than the Taurus-class due to the extensive required electronics fit. A distinctive truncated-conical waveguide shroud hides the Taurus-class's nose, which in the Titan is replaced by a massive cluster of sensor antennae and emitters.   Titan cuts almost the entire missile armament of Taurus, keeping only the second bank of torpedo launchers forward, and two-thirds of the beam armament is also dropped. The antenna farms that replace the forward and broadside beam batteries of Taurus are an absolutely distinctive feature of the Titan class.
