Roxborough District

A former suburb of Denver turned into a massive industrial park with a core residential center. Site of several major, though non-critical factories producing everything from food to toys, most of the residents are packed into a very dense residential/commercial core district. The South Pallate River marks the Northwest Border, Chatfield reservoir marks the northern boundary, and Plum Creek marks the Eastern Border. To the south lies hills that are avoided as nomads and gangs often use the area for smuggling and executions.   Nicknamed "Redborough" by CSS and local politicians due to its high concentration of co-ops, agitators, and frequent protests, it has become an eclectic community of rabble rousers. Several violent gangs have set up shop in the district, notably the Sixth Street Sickos and the Fallouts, who vie for territory throughout the district.   The industrial areas make up about 80% of the land coverage, with warehouses and factories taking up as much space as they can in the areas they are able to, some of which are stacked one on top of each other in 2 or three story warehouses that are sometimes 10 stories tall (the largest being 10-20 story mixed residential and commercial spaces, the most prominent of which was the 45 story Obelisk Building built by 3V, which resembles a massive cube at the core of the residential area, housing the district government offices and stores in the bottom five floors, the district's rapid rail station, and Corp bus depot, with the remaining 40 stories being mostly residential apartments (studio to 4 bedrooms), all surrounding a central shaft topped with a thick reinforced glass ceiling to allow sunlight in (when it isn't covered in snow)).   While the streets remain, most residents and pedestrians stick to a hive of subsurface tunnels lined with shops, bars, restaurants, casinos and businesses, most of which cater to the low-income residents of the district and sometimes extend as deep three stories for the public areas and often an additional 1 or 2 stories deeper with storage, delivery drone tunnels, and utilities access. In 2103, many of these tunnels are rundown, with inconsistent climate controls, graffiti, and many of the shop spaces vacant.   All vehicle traffic in and out of the district needs to travel on Waterton Road to the northwest or West Titan Road to the Northeast.   A small number of mansions lie in the western hills, where senior managers of the various industrial operations live in several-acre corp-owned estates.

History

Prior to 2031, the city of Roxborough Park was a small upscale suburb near the city of Denver. Following the creation of the Scar in 2031, the suburb was the site of one of the largest encampments of refuges in the metro area, crashing the local housing market and causing most of the original residents to flee.   While most of the refugees left for other metro areas, many stayed and tried to survive. When the metro area merged into the Denver Metroplex, the low property costs, relatively flat land and large low-income population made it an ideal site for industrial development. The tent encampments were forcibly cleared out as corps bulldozed and built up the residential areas with large apartment buildings and the Obelisk.
